If I have to work on a Friday night, I want to be learning from and inspired by these amazing DC parent organizers Vanessa R., @theecrinerbrown.bsky.social, & Katrice F. @dcpave.bsky.social. So many nuggets of wisdom for our Educational Transformation students. I love DC. Power to the people! ✊🏻

This is so vital. AI — like the internet — benefits when we refuse to consider its materiality.
NEWS: I'm told by Councilmember Brooke Pinto's office that D.C.'s expanded juvenile curfew law – which lets police enforce an earlier 8 p.m. curfew in designated areas – *does not* have the votes on the D.C. Council to be extended past its April 15 sunset or to pass on a permanent basis.
Here's a thread featuring clips of key moments from the DC Metropolitan Police body camera footage of the March 17, 2025 DOGE raid on the US Institute of Peace that I obtained as a result of my FOIA lawsuit:
I find bookstores incredibly calming and soothing. Luckily for me one of my favorite bookstores, Politics and Prose, is having their member sale this weekend! Very excited about these new books by @drashleydfarmer.bsky.social @historianheather.bsky.social and Judith Resnik. All women all March! 🙌🏻
Arrayed on an oak wood bar are an apple almond pastry, cortado, printed manuscript, and Alina Das’s book “No Justice in the Shadows: How America Criminalizes Immigrants.”
Spring break for me is catching up on work, making progress on writing projects, reading, & trying a new coffee shop. The apple almond pastry from Seylou DC is 🤌🏻 (everything here is whole grain!). Also rec ⬇️ by Alina Das for a history of the “crime based deportation regime” currently in full swing 💔
Afghanistan started at 92 percent approval. Iraq started at 71. Iran started at 27. The "whose side are you on" rhetoric is identical. The country underneath it isn't. I wrote about how the framework works, and who's deploying it. www.readtpa.com/p/with-us-or...
im starting to think the woke mind virus wasnt actually the biggest threat to civilization
Hundreds of students from across Washington, D.C., walked out of school on Friday to protest actions taken during the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.
Students held signs that read, “Keep Families Together” and “ICE Out Now!” https://wapo.st/4tZkXgP
Just started Marie Gottschalk's new book, "Crime and No Punishment," @princetonupress.bsky.social. Her focus on corporate & elite crime & violence is increasingly important esp alongside with the abolitionist re-frame of harm & violence (vs crime). TY to @anbutler5.bsky.social for the on-brand mug!
what is happening here
I keep thinking about how AI-in-classrooms would exacerbate inequity. Upper-middle/elite parents won't stand for their kids not having human interaction/feedback in K-16 classrooms. See e.g.: parents' growing tech resistance (h/t @ksinclair04.bsky.social) www.instagram.com/reel/DSTOhxj...
Before you finalize your dinner plans with friends, make sure to stop by the CUFA reception on Wednesday at 6:00pm! Join us at DC History Center for a chance to fellowship with one another with light hors d'oeuvres, drink ticket for early arrivals (non alcoholic beverages will be available)
A ceramic plate with a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin, a gray mug of black coffee, a red highlighter and blue pen, and a copy of Matthew Gardener Kelly’s “Dividing the public: School finance and the creation of structural inequality” adorn a oak wood bar counter.
So today! Headed to Takoma Beverage Company after dropping C at day off camp for a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin (top fall treat IMHO) & @mgardnerkelly.bsky.social ’s “Dividing the Public.” I’m teaching a new class (Intergovernmental Relations in Education) and trying to get ahead of syllabus prep 🙌🏻
I used to post pictures of books I’m reading & accompanying treats on the🐦 app, but lately that’s felt trite and silly. And, I decided this morning to start sharing again bc this is (some of what) brings me joy, grounds, and focuses me in dark times. And, maybe someone else will enjoy my book recs 😂
From the Conference Planning Team: It is with a heavy heart that we share our condolences for the passing of Dr. Jillian Carter Ford, a beloved member of the CUFA community and of the 2025 CUFA Planning Team...
I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”
It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”

Residents and activists have been pushing the council to do oversight on what MPD is doing with ICE. While nothing with police has been scheduled, tomorrow @brianneknadeau.bsky.social is holding a roundtable on human rights violations during the federal takeover: 51st.news/mpd-dc-polic...

How Congress Plans to Undermine D.C.’s Home Rule: A Story in Thirteen Bills
Last week, House Republicans, which is to say, fascists, unveiled a set of fourteen proposed bills to further deny the residents of the mainland colony democracy. One of the bills, H.R. 2693, the District of Columbia…
The CUFA 2025 Program Committee @kellyreneeallen.bsky.social @jjcarterford.bsky.social @drtmp.bsky.social and I & CUFA chair @drhawkman.bsky.social have been hard at work putting together a 🔥 program. Can't wait to welcome you to Washington, DC., my (beautiful, wonderful, vibrant) city ❤️ #CUFA2025
The Supreme Court bans affirmative action in university admissions but is okay with racial profiling on American streets. That pretty much sums up white supremacy--heads I win, tails you lose, all legal.

I will happily pay more taxes to make sure people have food, shelter, education, health care, etc. Happily! Take my money! Instead, our tax dollars are going to fund this monstrous enterprise. 😡
1. End enforcement of rules to promote equity in education
2. End research that highlights inequities in education
3. Create a precarious workforce to fill the jobs they're taking from immigrants that someone must still do when most jobs gets AI-ed
4. Create a ready audience for propaganda campaigns
Friday morning with @elizabethkai.bsky.social’s classic “From the War on Poverty to the War on Crime,” and a guava rose cruffin (?!?) from Lost Sock Coffee in Takoma. Trying to actually *finish* some of the books I’ve started this year. (Also, incredibly relevant piece of history).
