Sen. Beck (D) stands up on a crime bill and lambastes the rushed nature of the bill (SB 888) through the process, claiming that rape in the 1st degree and sodomy convictions would have no associated sentence for 2 years because of a drafting error. #moleg

Interesting debate on the floor of the #moleg Senate. Sen. Moon (R) made a resolution to video stream Senate proceedings, and several (R) Senators are trying to kill that resolution. Resolution is tabled, failing 12 to 11. No sunlight on the Senate today

I can see it. Pinched vertebrae in the neck from looking down at a phone, carpal tunnel for thumbs, Eye strain looking at screens too long, digestive issues and increased colon cancers from sitting too long.

Thank you, Christopher for bringing attention to this story! The Mo bill, as worded, requires entities to take "reasonable steps" to enforce this but is silent on what that means. This will create dangerous situations where people confront others about restroom use or call the police.

Missouri Republicans advance bill to police trans people’s bathroom access The measure would require public institutions to define sex by reproductive anatomy at birth and limit access to facilities.

Republican states are marching toward Idaho’s extremism on bathrooms. Missouri is next.

Completely absent from the bill is an explanation of "reasonable steps" entities have to take to keep sex segregation. Bathroom monitors? Members of the public challenging other's right to use a given bathroom? Calling the police? All the likely, and bad, outcomes denied by the bill's author.

Bill requiring sex-based restrooms, dorms clears Missouri House • Missouri Independent A bill prohibiting state-funded entities from operating all-gender restrooms passes the Missouri House largely along party lines.

The Missouri House passed a bill Monday that would force entities receiving state funding to restrict usage of restrooms, changing areas and sleeping accommodations based on biological sex and codify definitions for “female,” “male” and “sex” throughout state statute. #moleg #mogov

When I see stories, like out of Tennessee, of the state creating "anonymous" transgender patient registries, I need people to remember stories like this. State level officials are often wildly incompetent about keeping sensitive data private. www.advocate.com/politics/sta....

SB 1164 - Bill Information - Missouri Senate

HB 2536, SB 1085 the teacher speech ban on social transition, and SB 1164 was combined with SB 1476 the anti-drag bills. There is a lot of time left for these bad bills to be moved through the senate. @lizsaila.bsky.social www.senate.mo.gov/BillTracking...

Today, #moleg Missouri House third read and passed HB 2536 a sex designation and bathroom ban against transgender people. There are several anti-LGBT bills now moving to or in the #mosen Senate with 4 weeks left in this session.

Pretty harsh on Beck, I've seen him go to the mat to stop Republican nonsense quite a bit. Dems counted votes and lacked # to stop a PQ, so negotiated terms. What else should have happened, filibuster and get PQ'd with no concessions? I don't see Beck as the problem in Jeff City, not by a mile.

10 Senate Democrats, 6 of whom are term limited, 1 actively deployed are all that stands in the way of the Republicans turning Missouri into a complete dumpster fire. Aune's criticism is aimed in the wrong direction.

The dissenting judge really wants us to believe that rights need to also be popular. As if popular speech needs protection. Somehow I doubt the judge would let "unpopular" gun rights be abridged if he was living in California. Clownery.

Thank you, Kristin for live covering this debate! For a bill with such wide ranging ramifications, it only was allowed a short period of floor time for debate. The Democratic reps asked excellent questions on the bill's ambiguous language

It is a straight up food fight on the #moleg floor! Points of order are flying, accusations against the President. The bill's title is the protection of women and Democrats are talking about the perpetrators of crimes.

Bill handler admits a father could change his infant daughter's diaper in the men OR women's room, the bill sponsor slips up and says, "do you want to get caught up in a cause of action". Freudian slip, Laubinger knows that people individually will be punished themselves, not the covered entities.

Democratic Rep questions whether male presenting transgender men, with beards, will have to use the women's restroom by law. Laubinger claims that everywhere has single occupancy restrooms to facilitate, or "most" , or retrofits with locks may be made.

This suggests that because of such hesitancy from lawmakers to keep bills to original titles and subjects, this bill may not become a much broader anti-LGBT omnibus, but that remains to be seen if this bill comes to the floor again, and what amendments are offered.

The floor action has ended, and the Senate has adjourned under the rules, but interestingly, we learn that there seems to be a desire to keep this bill narrow in scope. All session Senators have been very keen to keep titles and subjects narrow, as the judiciary has struck down bills for such

The Bill sponsor, Sen Nicola (R) has asked for it to be laid over on the informal calendar, avoiding a possibly much longer filibuster. The bill can return on any future date, however.

Sen Williams motion would broaden the title to not just deal with student transitions, drawing a point of order objection from Sen. Moon (R). The #mosen senate Pro Tem O'Laughlin (R) ruled the amendment to SB 1085 is out of order and it is stricken.

For anyone tuning in, this is two Democratic Senators who have taken the floor, perhaps in a prelude to a longer filibuster, on Senate Bill 1085, an anti-transgender bill, a teacher speech ban, a forced outing bill, and a state wide rules for "appropriate" behaviors for boys and girls #moleg
