Realism can be overrated in art. If not going full realism works, like it does here, then it's the right choice.

Been stuck on this, but got great feedback from my spouse and friends, so I'm ready to finish it up soon!

If this pic taught me anything, it's that no matter how heavy I go into rendering, I still love making "incorrect" stylistic choices rather than going full realism.

PISSED is a glass cube containing 200 gallons of urine, excreted by @cassilsartist in the 200 days following the Trump administration's 2017 rollback of an Obama-era executive order, allowing transgender students to use the bathroom matching their chosen gender identities. As of April 2025, UK law under the Equalities Act introduced a similar rollback - defining sex in law as biological and excluding trans people from single-sex spaces that match their gender identity, including bathrooms. According to the artist, PISSED stands as a physical manifestation of the burden placed on an individual body when bathroom access is restricted by discriminatory policy. "It seems insane that I have to make a cube of piss for people to get this idea, I shouldn't have to make this. I shouldn't have to hold my own urine. It's crazy that we have to go to these extremes but this is the culture that we're living in." At the close of 200 days, Cassils invited the audience to witness the final acts that would complete PISSED. Standing on a platform above the audience, in front of a grid of 255 orange medical bottles marked with the date of urine capture, the artist shared the human acts of standing, drinking, and urinating. Accompanying this was an audio track featuring the oral arguments from the case of #GavinGrimm, the transgender male teen who became the face of transgender rights in his fight to use the boys' bathroom in a school in Virginia.
