Good Morning DCPB! Just a friendly reminder our BSPs start at 10am today. Come see the 8 speakers this morning, such as our #ScientistSpotlight Caroline Terry, a PhD student from WSU who will be presenting on the physiology underlying a salinity-induced cross-tolerance to heat in the copepod.
Our final #ScientistSpotlight tonight is Luci! Luci is a third year undergraduate student from California State University, Long Beach and will be presenting tomorrow about: In the Jaws! Of a Public Health Concern: Organochlorine Contaminants in Elasmobranchs of Southern California.
This afternoon, our #ScientistSpotlight is Stefane Saruhashi a PhD Candidate at Cornell. Stefane studies how protein remodeling of the inner mitochondrial membrane allows freeze tolerant insects to maintain mitochondrial function after freezing 🧊
Our next #ScientistSpotlight is @elissakhodikian.bsky.social, a PhD Student at the University of Washington! Elissa investigates the osmo and ion regulatory strategies of salt-tolerant coastal rock pool mosquito larvae with a focus on their excretory organs and gills.
Who's ready for #SICB2026?!? Today and tomorrow we will spotlight some of the Best Student Presenters for DCPB. The first #ScientistSpotlight is Cole Deal. Cole is a PhD student from CSU studying neuroendocrine patterns, processes and mechanisms that underly seasonal physiological transitions⛰️
Will you be sharing your research at SICB 2026?!? 🧪
A quick reminder that abstracts for SICB 2026 are due on August 27th at 11:59pm HST. We hope to see you there and can't wait to hear about the science you have been doing!
Abstract guidelines can be found here: www.xcdsystem.com/sicb/program...
Congratulations to this year's DCPB Best Student Presentation awardees: Emily Lau (Oral), Stefane Saruhashi (Poster) and Mary Gabrielle (Poster- honorable mention)! Congratulations to all presenters and we hope to see you next year in Portland!
Don't miss the George A. Bartholomew Lecture tonight! This year’s awardee is Dr. Kate Wilsterman from Colorado State University. Kate's research uses integrative approaches to understand how natural variation in reproductive traits arise from genetic and physiological diversity.
A lot is happening today with BSP talks starting at 10:30am and two sponsored symposia (S4 & S6) occurring throughout the day. Also, don't miss the "Future of Physiology" discussion at 4:45pm (available via Zoom/in-person) and DCPB's member meeting at 5:45pm!
At SICB 2025 today? Don't miss DCPB's sponsored symposia "Fleshing it out: recent advances in form, function and motor control of biological hydrostats" starting at 8am! PLUS swing by the posters at 3:30 to see the DCPB best student poster nominees🧪
Our next #ScientistSpotlight features DCPB's BSP nominee Sarah Heissenberger. Sarah is a PhD Candidate at the University of Arkansas, who will be sharing research on maternal effects of water restriction in an arid-adapted, precocial rodent native to central Chile, the common degu.
Our #ScientistSpotlight this week features DCPB's BSP nominee Emma Rhodes. Emma is a PhD candidate at Auburn University, who will be presenting on seasonal mitochondrial adaptations aiding in bird migration in crowned-sparrows and the Mimidae family.
This week for our #ScientistSpotlight series we are featuring DCPB's BSP nominee Emily Lau.@emilylau.bsky.social is a postdoctoral scholar at University of Chicago, who will be presenting on the molecular convergent evolution of bioluminescence in octocoral cnidarians and brittle stars echinoderms!
Kicking off this year's #ScientistSpotlight series is DCPB's BSP nominee Janki Bhalodi. Janki is a PhD candidate at University of North Carolina at Charlotte, who will be presenting on how the genomic HSF regulatory architecture shapes the transcriptomic response to stress in sea anemones🌊
Just a friendly reminder that registration for SICB 2025 is due December 1st. Can't wait to see you all in Atlanta!
Hello everyone, we are the Society of Integrative & Comparative Biology's Division of Physiology and Biochemistry! We are excited to now be joining you on Bluesky!
