Will still reblog, boss. It's too adorable not to be shared!

While working slowly on a Miyanagi WIP, let me show you this super old Trigger11 draft from last year. The idea is cute, but I'll prolly never pick it up and fix it. It's just in the sea of drafts ideas lmao.

"Forbidden", a sign that shows up whenever Bluesky is down.
Amazing work, slamming your dick in the car door, Bsky devs. Masterful move. More AI please!

However, I did still like the anime, and I will say that if you can get past the fact that it explores taboo topics like what I just warned about, it is worth a watch or read.
In the end, I need that detective tied up (with consent) on my bed and-
I'm ending this thread here.
I would very much not like to have our people roped in with predators, especially when the mainstream consistently try to paint people like me as creeps for the sole sin of existing.
I really don't like how Japanese media can sometimes try to normalise queerness, and then in the same breath, also try to normalise relationships between minors and adults with a wide margin in age.
-or the fact that it's not even the only case in this anime where weird age gaps apply in a relationship between an adult and a minor.
However, I am still going to point out the problematic parts like a 30-year-old vampire dating the 14-year-old main character and having it be framed as the main couple of the series,-
That said, this is the main disclaimer that I wanted to put out with this anime. I understand the reason why the main character is a teenager. This is of course, a coming-of-age story, and you can't exactly have a coming-of-age with a character that's already of age.
It also has a fat otaku character and he turns out to be one of the most charming characters in the show and I LOVE whenever he appears.
This, and the queer characters are just part of the writing and it doesn't try to point at it as something to be ashamed of or pay some unneeded attention to.
That said, human empathy is often used as a tool in these stories to at least try and elicit a sense of familiarity and understanding between an audience and the unusual. I think this is where this anime truly shines, and this is why I like it a lot.
There is, of course, a danger in comparing minority groups with fantasy creatures, of course. Vampires are almost always typecasted as queers, the same way orcs are sometimes compared to black people. It's wholly reductive and even potentially harmful.
It's pretty clear how vampires can be seen as an allegory for minority groups in general (with the exception of the whole sucking blood thing of course), and especially queer communities. Vampires largely look and act like regular humans with no directly distinguishing features other than fangs.
It has the classic setup of vampire society being secret and hidden away from the normal world, and heavily explores the humanity of people who would otherwise be considered an "other". And then explores how the normal world and vampires can hurt each other.
It has really in-depth explorations on love, lust, and how the two can often be mistaken for each-other. And since it's a story about vampires, it has no qualms exploring more taboo subjects in the mainstream like queer relationships. Hell, it's so open, the second opening has girls kissing.
It's not part of a specific queer "genre" like yuri and yaoi. Instead, you have a polyamourous bisexual crossdresser, bisexuals, lesbians, and a messy depressed emotionally stunted (and hot) detective who wanted to fall in love, etc.
Romance is a major genre that this anime stems from.
I know I have bias because this is the first anime I've seen in a long time where queerness and other unusual (in the most literal sense) aspects are just naturally part of it.
As usual, make sure you're mature enough to understand nuance and subtext, and know full well how to separate fiction from reality, while still recognising the impact fiction can have on our world. Even problematic media can have important insights on the cultures it was born from.
Thoughts on Call of the Night, since I watched the first and second season.
I like it a lot, but it's another case where I can't recommend it without heavy disclaimers.
How to reblog more than once?
