Author Pippa Goodhart reads Fair Shares! YouTube video by Tiny Owl

In case anyone is grappling with why the trans community’s voices need to be amplified, or why the BLM movement is so important, the children’s book Fair Shares by Pippa Goodhart was instrumental in teaching my kid about equity.
Heres a video of the author reading it:

It’s great! The Tunic songs are killer too. No letter for me unfortunately, and annoyingly I’ve lost the liner notes, which if I remember rightly were a small booklet, but it’s such a treat to listen to these songs again.

Record of the day is the 4x4 compilation on Up Records from (I think) 1995/6.
Four tracks each by Appendix Out, Tunic, Kilgore Trout and Brewster, and showcasing Alasdair Roberts at his most indie rock. A true fan favourite (for this fan)

Someone’s playing Start Chopin’ by Dinosaur Jr over the Whole Foods PA and that solo never sounded so good.

I never thought my 2nd Grade kid would be bringing notices like this home from school.
That said, I’m incredibly grateful the city are proactively reaching out to support vulnerable families.

Sitting in a car park listening to a super heartwarming story on This American Life with tears streaming down my face. Humanity isn’t completely fucked, y’know.

Correct but somebody’s at least buying the CD in the first place so the artist is making some sort of royalty from that product compared to the negligible return through major streaming services.

Both killer eps. Halfway to a Threeway gets a lot of airtime in this house and it’s nice to be reminded of how great the All Most Heaven 12” is.
See also the Marquis de Tren & Bonnie Billy 12” which came out around the same time.

Album of the year 2024

This album landed in my life in December and totally disrupted my album of the year plans.
Ugandan lukeme player Ekuka Morris Sirikiti’s first studio album on Nyege Nyege Tapes is crucial stuff. It’s simultaneously urgent and hypnotic, and utterly, utterly beautiful.
