My review of @criterion.bsky.social's release of Ernst Lubitsch's Trouble In Paradise for @thepeoplesmovies.bsky.social - I really need to see more Lubitsch, this is only the 4th film of his I've seen and so far I've loved all of them!

Not sure whats happened but it looks like a bunch of my features for Horrified Magazine have reappeared online - here's one I wrote about #ShaunOfTheDead: www.horrifiedmagazine.co.uk/film/shaun-o...
I'm so behind at promoting my writing - however, here's my review of the recent @Eurekavideo release of a genre defying double bill from Kiyoshi Kurosawa - thepeoplesmovies.com/charisma-clo...
2. Double Indemnity
1. The Third Man
Honestly, it's fitting that it comes down to these two, because while The Third Man is my favourite film of all time, I have a hard time ranking it above Double Indemnity, which is just about the noiriest noir that ever noired.

I missed out on the #Noirvember frivolities this year, so instead, here is a simple list of my 50 favourite film noirs, accompanied by my favourite stills from each (or y'know, the best I could find)
50. The Big Clock
49. Sorry Wrong Number
48. The Prowler
47. House Of Bamboo
And finally here is the list I mention a few times, from the world expert on film noir, Eddie Muller, on his own favourite film noirs: www.eddiemuller.com/top25noir.html
And here's another one I mention on the podcast about the best heist films - there's a lot of crossover here!

Here is a listicle I wrote about some of my favourite underrated classic noirs - a couple of which make an appearance on the pod! www.slashfilm.com/702437/under...
Had a great time on @thepeoplesmovies.bsky.social podcast talking about some of my favourite underappreciated film noirs to commemorate #Noirvember including two incredible heist thrillers, and the best adaptation of To Have & Have Not - no not that one!

I reviewed Rupert Russell's excellent folk horror / true crime doc #TheLastSacrifice at the Glasgow Frightfest earlier this year, and now it's being screened across the UK to coincide with Halloween - with some Q&As with the director! see dates and venues below

That being said, my Best Of would look like this:
1. The Ventriloquists Dummy - Dead Of Night
2. The Black Hair - Kwaidan
3. All Through The House - Tales From The Crypt
4. They're Creeping Up On You - Creepshow
5. Box - Three... Extremes (I can't stress how much I loved this story)
I do sometimes wonder what a Best Of portmanteau horror film would look like, but ultimately the best of the subgenre are the ones where the wraparound story is crucial to the film's whole (Dead Of Night, Asylum and Tales From The Hood are the best examples I think) so it would be tricky.
Since I namedrop a couple in the review - here are my top ten portmanteau / anthology horror films:
1. Dead Of Night
2. Kwaidan
3. From Beyond The Grave
4. Three...Extremes
5. Black Sabbath
6. Asylum
7. Trick R Treat
8. Tales From The Crypt
9. Creepshow
10. Tales From The Hood
@arrowvideo.bsky.social's new release of #ThreeExtremes and #Three is incredible - here's my review for @filmhounds.co.uk filmhounds.co.uk/2025/10/thre...
FWIW I would give Three...Extremes 5/5 and Three 3/5, hence the 4/5 rating.
My very specific train related pet peeve is when people get off a train and stop before deciding which way to go, like they’re the main character in a film, looking round like “so this is London!” M8 there’s about 12 people trying to get past you.
So I saw #TheLongWalk yesterday, and while it definitely has it's issues, my main take away was "hey, they don't need to adapt that book again!" which I guess means overall I liked it.

My five star review of #OneBattleAfterAnother for Critical Popcorn:
Paul Thomas Anderson's most thrilling film, blending the wryly subversive tone of Inherent Vice with the nonstop momentum of Uncut Gems, and Leonardo DiCaprio at his frantic best.

I reviewed @studiocanal.com's release of the masterful #TheManInTheWhiteSuit for Critical Popcorn. It's a quietly subversive comedy that feels all too relevant today
