You need to come into the PhD knowing you won’t be a professor and then work strategically to set yourself up for success

Good pay (in some cases as good as academia, if not markedly better), no publish or perish, no booting around the country/world for a job unless I want to? At the cost of not pushing the boundary of knowledge and having tenure.
