I found this amusing.
Colin Milburn and Rita Raley, "Inappropriate AI":
“Universities need to come to terms with the basic but still strangely unacknowledged (or repressed) idea that AI systems are appropriation machines—and embrace instead the radical potential of ‘inappropriate AI.’”

Yes, it works on mobile 😉
"We must treat infrastructure as a public good. Instead of each lab or institution fending for itself, universities should pool resources to support shared platforms with transparent governance."
"Universities are reluctant to fund software engineers at competitive salaries. [...] Without proper funding structures, essential research tools remain fragile, often maintained by overworked volunteers."

Honestly, coding in Agent Mode feels like dealing with bad legacy code. It’s usually better to scrap everything and start fresh than try to fix that garbage.

This is a super illustrative video on how stable diffusion models work. TBH, I didn't follow all the math, but I think I got the gist 😛

What really stands out to me is how this video demonstrates the potential of coding with an AI tool. This isn't "vibe coding" at all.
This is an amazing deep dive into a possible use of AI as an augmented workflow tool for writing software, even without writing prompts!
You can see how @maryrosecook.bsky.social is clearly leading the development process, fully understanding each output along the way.

Potentially interesting for building models in relatively data-scarce domains (eg historical language models)
And for my Medieval archaeogaming friends: this is Scriptorium, a game in which you get to illustrate your own manuscripts, with each decorative element based on real medieval manuscript art!

Today was the farewell event for @alanyliu.bsky.social from @ucsb.bsky.social. It was an emotional gathering filled with Alan’s friends, students, and colleagues, proof of the deep impact he’s had throughout his career.

Academics might feel embarrassed when using AI-generative tools. In contrast, the industry encourages (and sometimes even forces) designers, programmers, and other workers to utilize AI copilots for increased efficiency. Is this yet another gap between academia and the "real world"?
