I get it! They also make a splitter where you can do both at the same time, like this one. www.amazon.com/dp/B0CF98H7XW

Irritating that the phones don't come with headphone jacks anymore! (Very sorry in advance for unsolicited advice, but it was news to me that you could buy a little USB-C to headphone jack adapter for real cheap.)
I'll be attending CAKE; looking forward to seeing your felt creations in person!
Bright teal-y blue background with black and white text that reads: Support Hampshire College Staff and Faculty! DONATE TO OUR EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND Hampshire College is closing, and hundreds of staff and faculty are facing sudden job loss.
As you know, Hampshire College is closing, and hundreds of our wonderful staff & faculty colleagues are facing sudden job loss without severance.
Hampshire staff & faculty have launched an Emergency Relief Fundโif youโre able, please donate or share!

And you're still talking about "engagement," like you didn't get it, at all. Fix *your* heart.
Not ready to talk about it yet, which is why I disabled replies.
Yellow flowers and dry tall brown glasses line a nature-filled harbor on Northerly Island. The city of Chicago's skyline is visible in the background.
Richard M. Daley's one good idea. #Chicago
I have to drive a moving van 900 miles by myself. I think at least one of the people who made the decision to lay me off should be required to help me drive. Or at least pitch in for gas.
@xop.co Hey man take another look at what your bot is doing, and look at the post it's doing it with. Can you see that it's fucked up to post about percentages of engagement on a post about how the algorithm is messing with someone's mental health?
nonbinary time traveler, call that a they/then
๐ซฉ I went to look up the draft and it's only available to members so I'm free of needing to have thoughts about it! ๐โ๏ธ

my Big Challenges homage #zine is HOT HOT HOT lately! Have you picked up your copy yet?

Usually I'm on the Empire Builder but today I'm on the Hiawatha headed up to the Milwaukee Zine Fest. Excited to see zine friends there! #MKEZineFest2026
Photo of a map of the U.S. in the Chicago Amtrak station, showing white spots where people's fingers have rubbed off the ink. The white spots correspond to popular Amtrak routes, radiating out from Chicago, with smaller white spots at New York City, Washington DC, Denver, and New Orleans.
Blessed map at Chicago's Union Station, with wear marks showing popular #Amtrak destinations. ๐๐บ๐
A maze-like illustration made of linoleum which has been embedded into the pavement with tar, reminiscent of a Toynbee Tile. It's blue, light green, and white, and maybe 14 inches long.

I'd just see it as part of a stage whisper. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwik...
Great reminders, thank you! Not to give you more work (really!), but if you ever wanted to write up a short blog post about what you wish you'd known, there'd be a place for it as a guest post on the ACRLog.
Moving out of Chicago never having learned to check the Cubs schedule before planning a bus trip across town.
Oh no, this is not remotely comparable. Absolutely not. Please go elsewhere to complain about this. YOU'RE GETTING PAID TO DO THIS, I'M NOT.
I mentioned earlier that a university asked me to fly out on Thanksgiving week, and I was like no thanks, and then they switched to a zoom interview. But if switching to an online interview was an option the whole time, why not just... do that??
All this after traveling across the country in the cheapest (read: middle) seat the university can buy on the cheapest flight a university can buy, maybe a layover for good measure.
Terrible. What a thing to do to someone you're supposedly interested in working with! I hope your friend never forgives and never forgets.
I know not everyone can refuse, but when an employer asked me to fly out during Thanksgiving week I said no thanks, and they switched to online instead.
I wish they would too! Students should also know about the Hiring Librarians salary spreadsheet, started by Emily Weak. Encourage library workers to contribute to it! ๐ hiringlibrarians.com/everybody-el...
I just shared my spreadsheet with a group of MLIS students. "The red highlighting is rejections, the white is when they ghosted me." ๐ซ
I'm the LIS version of Dr. Kyle. I'll come in and tell students the job market sucks, maybe throw a peppermint at them. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aMw... ๐
Turns out you can just say whatever you think will be helpful to the students and it's fine! No one stops you!!
evergreen post
If you're an LIS instructor, feel free to invite me to your class and I'll tell them this stuff (and talk about cataloging stuff too, I guess). Some librarians are talking to classes & telling students what worked for them in their job search 20 years ago, but it's a different world now. ๐
Things I talk to my #MLIS students about:
*my salary (as an adjunct & as a librarian)
*my student loans (how much I owe & the PSLF process)
*vocational awe (RIP Fobazi)
*Melvil's legacy & why it matters
*the job hunt (I show them my academic interview day schedules & they're horrified).

voice over: These classification systems were created and then cruelly abandoned. Won't you make room in your heart to help today?
