It's an upgrade over the previous version. The one that you can download at the moment is a pretty bad emulation all things considered.

This new one will be running on the new and upgraded PS2 emulator with new features like rewind and quick save. And it will just play better.

It might not surprise you to learn that the artist behind this concept art is Craig Elliott, who also worked on Disney's Treasure Planet (one of my favourite movies of all time).

A variety of alien species highlighted in the Jak 4 concept art section of 'The Art of Naughty Dog' book in 2014.

It seems as though it could have been a big departure for Jak and Daxter, for it would have perhaps transformed the franchise into more of a space opera.
