I had a similar Waterfall bedroom set. I loved it so much. I loaned it to a friend of a friend, who dropped it on the freeway and I had to refurbish it. 😢

It upset me. I’ve defended this older gentleman as well when he has been misunderstood.

I don’t have a moral to this story. It was just something that my mind kept replaying. I think I was right to speak up for the young man. I hate that I had to.

He has bad days sometimes. It’s not the first time that we’ve had a disagreement, but I was astonished at how quickly he went from looking at these beautiful flowers to verbally attacking this young man.🧵

Stand to be talked to that way by anybody… he compared this young, friendly, autistic volunteer to the KKK.

Like, he wasn’t even really interrupted in this transaction. We had finished talking and then he set up the shot he wanted to take, and was about to get the photo of some flowers at my desk.🧵

The young autistic man was confused by this, there was a little verbal onslaught from the older man. I defended the young man, told him it was a literal neurological difference.

He said he was tired of that shit. And then he said that he used the same tactic against the KKK, and he wasn’t going to🧵

This man was at my desk, taking a photo.

Some of our autistic volunteers (also relevant) came in and one of the more outgoing ones asked my name, like he usually does, in his usual, not-so-quiet voice.

The man who had been standing there snapped at this young man, said, “My name is EXCUSE ME.” 🧵

I work with such a wonderfully diverse population. For the most part, folks are very accepting of differences, and it’s not always easy work, but it is fun.

I had an odd incident happen today. An older Black man (yes, this is relevant to the story), very outspoken politically, mostly great company🧵
