New paper! Congrats to @markplitt.bsky.social, Konstantin and team! The brain’s spatial map isn’t static but for hippocampus CA1 maps to change with experience, they need postsynaptic membrane fusion. A new link between synaptic machinery and flexible coding!

Great papers in spatial neuro this week. Csicsvari's group: hippocampal place fields stabilise during learning while mPFC stays flexible. Giocomo's lab: CA1-subiculum topography actively shapes boundary coding & corner cells.

Congrats @emilyaeryjones.bsky.social and team! The brain doesn’t just map where you are, it maps where it matters. Great thread below!
New preprint! Circuit wiring isn’t just anatomy, it shapes computation. Disrupting CA1→subiculum topography reorganizes spatial coding and destabilizes network dynamics. Great collab led by Yanjun Sun, & with D Pederick, X Xu & L Lou!

Spatial navigation in preclinical Alzheimer's disease: A review
New review from @antoinegc.bsky.social and @antoinecoutrot.bsky.social labs, on which I am a co-author, and first author is the amazing Syrine Salouhou

Fun afternoon with the lab learning how to make homemade pasta!
Really enjoyed writing up this article with Lavonna Mark for @cp-trendscognsci.bsky.social on how internal states - like attention, arousal, or goals - can reshape our brain's map of space, helping the brain adapt navigation to what matters most.

Anyone else running into NPX 2.0 supply issues? Heard there’s a 90 pause on accepting new orders 🫣
Sunrise run in NYC @rockefeller.edu
Holiday brunch with the lab! Grateful for this community of creative and thoughtful scientists!
On Sunday, I tried to follow my own advice! Born with hip dysplasia, and starting to run in 2019, I never imagined I would run a 3:40 marathon or BQ. I’m deeply grateful to the family and friends who supported me along the way and continue to inspire me! It’s never too late. We can do hard things ❤️
I often tell my students that graduate school is a marathon—pace yourself, refuel consistently, and build a strong support team.

Had a blast with the lab and friends at #SFN2025 in San Diego!
At SFN 2025? Come check out our posters on Monday!
The Sosa Lab is going to #SfN25 and actively recruiting ✨postdocs✨ with systems neuroscience experience! We study both fundamental memory processes and how memory changes during pregnancy and postpartum.
If you are interested in meeting at SfN, please email me! www.sosaneurolab.com/join/postdoc...
Congrats to lead authors @alexattinger.bsky.social and Tony Drinnenberg and all our amazing collaborators! Check out the thread below for new work from the lab on plasticity, cortex and spatial representations for navigation!
Excited to announce that my first postdoc paper is now online!

In it, we examine the perennial question: what changes in the brain when learning a new motor skill?

Congratulations!!
It's officially published!! In my main postdoc work with @markplitt.bsky.social and @lgiocomo.bsky.social, we found that the hippocampus simultaneously encodes an animal's spatial position and its experience relative to reward in parallel population codes. 🧵

New paper from the lab officially out! Congratulations @marisosa.bsky.social - amazing work - and just before she sets off to UC Boulder to start her own lab!
Please re-post and share! This is a great effort to improve communication of science benefits and discoveries

Early morning run on the High Line ❤️
New lab alert!! Mari is an incredibly creative and awesome scientist - plus an amazing mentor! If you have the opportunity to join her lab - I can’t recommend it enough - can’t wait to see her get started ❤️
Looking forward to a day of science at @CSHL! Started my day with a sunrise run - such a beautiful campus
Congratulations to Charlotte Herber on her beautiful thesis defense today! The MD world is very lucky to have you headed back to clinic soon but we will miss you! Excited to see where your future path takes you in research and medicine!
New from the lab!! 👉🏼 authors.elsevier.com/a/1kgT43BtfH... 📝 @cellpress.bsky.social We discovered that genetically-defined neuron types in the hippocampus form unique manifolds! Dual color imaging, chemogenetics and topological analysis all at once! With Juan Gallego @juangallego.bsky.social
Congratulations to John Wen on his thesis defense! Amazing to see what you've accomplished over your PhD and can't wait to see where your journey takes you!
We are currently looking for a research scientist/technician!
