The first panel shows a crow with the title "How to live a good life". The second panel shows a crow cawing at itself in the mirror with the subheading "Make friends". The next panel says "Explore" and shows a crow looking into a commercial waste bin. The next says "Try new things" with a crow eating something vile. The next one says "Be curious" and shows the crow grabbing a hissing cat's tail". The final frame says "Get a hobby" and shows the crow looking closely at a book of matches.

a circuit board with a d-shell connector with only 3 sockets. there's a bit of plastic around it marked HP, so presumably it is from some test equipment.

i desperately want out but there's nowhere else to go, i need to get paid so i can have food and shelter, and this cancer is eating a ton of other jobs alive

if you can even still find anything, there's probably no stability to it

i don't have it in me right now to get too into it but every time i have to brush against the surface of this field, much less participate in it, i just feel some mixture of hopelessness, revulsion, and dread

sometimes i don't even get real emails anymore, i just get links to chatgpt transcripts

a pair of blue LEAP branded NiMH batteries

a pair of blue LEAP branded NiMH batteries

i found these old batteries a little while back. They're probably from about 2002-2004 or so and they still charge up and hold a charge pretty well.

First thought: that battery factory sure had some kinda secret sauce.

Second: these batteries are probably older than some of you.

either that or get comfortable with pulling EEPROM chips to write your own firmware to them i guess

but like if you're at the point where your platform is already compromised before you even lay hands on it because the platform manufacturers are complying with malicious laws, you've already lost, that's the fight, you can't let it get that far in the first place

if they use secure boot to do it, it's only because it's a mechanism they chose to exploit

if it didn't exist, and they had the same goal, they'd do it some other way. some other signing scheme or burning an authorized bootloader directly into the firmware, idk the exact mechanism

2 days ago 0 0 1 0

the way i think about it is secure boot as it exists today is fine, you can still sign/boot any software you choose to if you're the owner

it could be changed in the future, sure, but if we're in a situation where platform manufacturers are malicious, it doesn't really matter

idk shit about engines but at this point you've probably just gotta assume that any tube that can possibly be full of oil is full of oil

"your microwave today has more processing power than a 1980s game console and they didn't have compilers"

they had somewhere between a few bytes and a couple kilobytes of memory so they wouldn't even be able to store this skeet and its metadata

Ontario government buys $28.9M private jet for Doug Ford's use | CBC News The provincial government has purchased a pre-owned private jet for $28.9 million to be used by Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

same asshole who put every public employee of ontario on sub-inflationary pay progression during the worst of the covid cost of living explosion "to save public money"

maybe we'll luck out and the jet will catch fire
