imagine being so bad you lose your seat to scottish labour: the joanna cherry story.
This is so me. Gambling is the thing I am a total puritan about.
Shows resident teen magical Trevor.
Them: That's older than me.
Me: The internet was better before the Nazis.
Them: In the 1920s?
@octothorpecast.bsky.social John mentioning Under the Skin on the basis it features swimming reminded me of this list I made a while ago.
Even the parts of Under the Skin that aren't sea swimming invoked damp to me.
Verhoeven was too subtle.
She's just said in a footnote that if you don't already know what the Omegaverse is, please don't Google it on her account.
I wrote a little blog about my queerness and why I struggle to centre it in my stories. If youβre interested in bi-rep it might be a good one for you! π

It's hard to know how to define a "retelling", exactly, but let's say there's a spectrum with "fanfiction" at one end and "all literature" at the other.

The cover of In Love With Love by Ella Risbridger
'Genre (like gender) is at its best when it's a playground instead of a prison.'
Yes, think I'm going to enjoy this book.
I wear noise cancelling over ear headphones when on a bus and most podcasts I can hear fine but this particular one just doesn't work.
Listening to a podcast I want to like more but the sound is so faint. So frustrating.
Both kids are going to a woodies camp this week so oh and I will be empty nesters.
We are also broke after paying for various teen related stuff so all partying will have to be from our cupboards.
Shows the importance of posture.
The full lego set of the Balrog threatening Gandalf. At the front it says 'you shall not pass' There are flames either side of the Balrog, underneath his wings and these pieces can fold to turn this into a book nook.
Finished it. This one I am slightly sad to return.
Snap of a half built surprisingly buff Balrog made of Lego.
Why does this Balrog have a four pack?
It's a fun build.
When I went to the US on a J1, the orientation guy tried to get us to consider heading west for exactly this reason. He did mournfully accept that most of us would stick to Boston or the Jersey shore.
I just guided a wasp out of the bus window, I am a hero. ,
I read 3 library books in March, which isn't a lot for me. Does mean I read a fair amount of already owned books.
I read 3 books bought this year. I have read all the books I have bought this year but there are 4 books from OH and they have to be read to reach my goal of net negative tbr.
Here's the covers and ratings. I will probably come back and update this thread over the day with thoughts but please ask if you want my thoughts about particular books.
A graphic from Storygraph summarising my reading in March. I read 15 books, this adds up to 4400 pages and gave an average rating of 3.8. My highest rated reads were the Starving Saints (5), The Return of Fitzroy Angursell (5) and Some People Need Killing (4.5)
March reading summary. #booksky
I read 15 books, which surprised me because for a while I felt like all I was reading was Exordia for days.
I thought Exordia's first third was great, then it lost me in the physics. Still liked the people & kept going but did not really understand what was going on
Fuck, just lost my reading wrap up posts and they aren't in drafts.
Will do it later but top-level summary. I read a lot which is weird because it definitely felt like I was stuck reading one particular book for ages.
I guess the show would make no sense without them but I haaaate the wedding episodes on #mafsau
In fact, last year they were horrible enough I bounced off the series. Partly because it's a point where the manipulation by the producers is very obvious.
Just went and watched Everyone to Kenmure Street again with elder kid.
If you want to see something hopeful about people making a difference that doesn't pretend how precious and rare those moments are, I definitely recommend it.
(It won a Special Jury Prize at Sundance)

Picture of Wolf Worm by T Kingfisher held against a dark blue duvet cover with a yellow print.
Needed a tone reset after last book. Went for new T Kingfisher and have already learnt several fly facts I could have happily done without.

I adore Love Forms - only Flashlight was better that year for me.
At one point while reading I was also reading Glorious Exploits for bookgroup. Two books featuring people starving at once is a bit much.
They are very different books but both very good. The Starving Saints is way weirder (complimentary) though.
I just finished the Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling. More horror than I normally like, but really good Tanith Lee type medieval siege horror with sapphic themes and weirdness.
No idea how it ended up on my tbr but massive recommendation.

I looked up some reading order guides, which are very helpful.
I haven't read At the Feet of the Sun but I ended Hands both having liked it very much and not wanting more of the same.
Not got to them yet. Serious risk of being my most read author this year.
