While some folks might like to muddle definitions because they are pro-deregulation and anti-consumer (like some tech blogs I could name), those are highly unserious people who don't deserve the voice they have.
Glad to see the courts ignoring them.

We are glad to see courts figuring out how to navigate reigning in Big Tech and preserving the ACTUAL Section 230 protections.
"Not responsible for user generated content" should not give blanket immunities for how that UGC is presented. And no, chronological and alphabetical are NOT algorithms.
aidirtylist.info has had an RSS feed for a little while, but I just now got around to putting the little orange icon in the footer so that people, you know, know about it. #RSS #NOAI
Please do get in touch. I was invited and have done essentially nothing because of moderately severe health issues and prep for a trip - Can we get more reliable editors as well?
Heads up for anyone still using #RedHat #Linux or one of its downstream distributions: www.theregister.com/2026/03/31/r...
I can have you covered on the message board; might take some doing for a LJ clone but if you know any developers...
You can see an example of someone else who uses the service at social.bear-den.org/@gendenelith (who goes by @gendenelith.bsky.social here) to see that it will look near identical to the one for Bear Den Hosting that you see in the original post.
You can absolutely have a social feed like that! Right now, I offer ActivityPub accounts through social.bear-den.org - it uses GoToSocial and so you'd have a feed just like that one at social.bear-den.org/@jackalcakes (or whatever username you sign up with) as soon as you were approved.
We have updated our webmail client at bear-den.org/webmail; you may see some speedups using it. Please let us know if you have any issues!
It may be time for us to delete this account as well.
This shoveling of AI down users throats won't stop here. It will continue as the developers' AI Psychosis worsens.

Yup. And make sure those of us who run businesses and have an attorney start preparing now for if we have to sue.
The anger I feel in my soul at this. The rage, the loathing, the absolute unmitigated hate.
They want to take our hard work and replace it with their garbage and present it AS IF IT WERE MADE BY US?
Go fuck yourselves, Google. It's bad enough that you replaced the W3C with WHATWG; now this too???
There's a reason the last week has been me going "Oh hey Gentoo; how're YOU doin'?"
A screenshot of a website that reads: "The Slopware List - Tracking which software contains AI generated code." There are some popular GitHub repos listed below with numbers and pig emojis.
Working on this new thing. Dropping in a few days mb
As someone who HAS endless kidney stones, I agree. Constant pain and a massive reduction in quality of life? Hell yes; they deserve that at a MINIMUM.

We will do everything in our power to shield our users from the plague that is AI, but sometimes it'll take a little longer to figure out how to construct the next shield we need to use.
Yes, we are aware that systemd is now accepting AI submissions. Yes, we are also aware that Debian only supports systemd as an init system. Yes, we are looking at alternative options and ways we can pivot.
No, we do not have any ETA; this is a huge project that'll take a ton of work.
And just like that, we are up and running at social.bear-den.org for anyone who would like an ActivityPub ("Mastodon") account; feel free to sign up and we will be reviewing account requests as they come!
And for those just going from your web or device client of choice, the username you're looking for is @gendenelith@bear-den.org.
All Bear Den Hosting usernames are just @bear-den.org, without the "social" prefix. :)

I REALLY need to get a social.bear-den.org instance up and running for people to use, on ActivityPub, I think.
Just created something with my own two hands, no AI involved, just my own skills and knowledge.
Repost to scare @why.bsky.team and the rest of the Bluesky staff!
And if not Tuta, Bear Den Hosting *also* will not share data with the feds, nor will we EVER allow AI in or around any of our products and services.
I mean this is AI (as commonly referred to nowadays) users in a nutshell. People who have zero domain knowledge except for one specific area pretending that they have domain knowledge in ALL areas and acting on it with unearned confidence.
I'm happy to help where I can, but yes, as you said upthread - Linux Mint is a great place to start. It feels familiar and for the most part, Just Works(tm).
AND rejects AI, which is fantastic.

Conveniently, we are not REQUIRED to list websites that people register. We are not REQUIRED to point people to his hate sites.
It's not like we can't do anything. We just have to have the fortitude to do it.
Hey @lastweektonight.com; saw your latest about Twitter and Musk. You had no segment about "what can we do;" well, I have a suggestion.
DNS server operators need to NXDOMAIN the site. Make it inaccessible by the vast majority of people. Screw ICANN and the registrars - knock it offline for most.
Update: We have received verification that client domains are not being impacted by this misclassification on Cisco Umbrella's part. Many thanks to @baralheia@dragonchat.org on ActivityPub for helping us verify that using a sample of client domains to check.
