It has always been interesting to consider why US companies do not push for universal healthcare. This makes clear that for the ruling class, control over workers takes precedent over profit. Tethering healthcare to employment forces people to stay in situations they would otherwise contest or exit.
I didn't know if it's true that one uses different parts of one's brain, but I do know reading what I wrote aloud catches a whole bunch of simple grammar and copy-edit errors, and it's a practice I recommend for every writer.
Our for-profit healthcare system is not only amoral, it is bad for the economy.
Turns out all you have to do is actually do the thing! What a concept!
Oh no that's terrible. Yeah my dad had to be on intravenous antibiotics for weeks. If it hadn't been caught when it was, he probably would have developed encephalitis as well.
My dad got a case of Lyme that spread to his brain/spinal fluid and he was left with permanent neurological deficits from it. A lot of people don't realize just how serious this disease can be. A vaccine would be wonderful news. (What happened to him is just one reason I am Against Lawns.)
This is a hard story to read. Imagine being asked to ignore a dead coworker to maintain productivity that further enriches shareholders.
What would that do to your mental health? How could you return to work the next day?
The human costs of our late-stage capitalist economy are all too real.

"Ghokhale said Editrix.ai has reached a point where AI handles 95% to 97% of mechanical editing—tasks like comma placement and em-dash consistency—freeing editors to focus on judgment and craft." Yes, it's commas and em-dashes that bog down all my time as an editor.

In the past month I have met two different people who thought the Star Wars films were based on books, that books came first. Has anyone else encountered this?? It also feels like a sad commentary on Hollywood's lack of original ideas, an assumption that books must be the source material.
A lot of the time it's because we want a completely new voice, in fact!

This pleases me. :)
I love that by the end he’s asking her to be his Ed McMahon.

Carrie Fisher holding her hand to her face with a mischievous grin and eyes darted off to the side.
Also.... this cutie. I miss her.
Saw that Arsenio Hall has a memoir out and it made me wonder if the time Carrie Fisher was on his show is on YouTube and of course it is. It's a classic. If you are a young'un who's never seen this, here you go. Uh, be warned it's mostly about sex though. ;)

Two framed artworks of Star Wars pilots -- a New Republic pilot climbing into her X-wing with her squadron in the background, and an Imperial pilot climbing into a TIE fighter, also backed by his squadron. The artworks are resting on top of a grey marble fireplace.
A long time ago, in a mailroom far, far away... we received some amazing #StarWarsSquadrons fanart from @jakebartok.bsky.social. After much time and many adventures, they have finally found a safe spot in Motive's game room above the fireplace 💙
