‘Incomprehensible’: birds flee and hundreds of turtles left to die after government cuts water to NSW wetlands Frogs and sheep in the Gwydir wetlands near Moree have also been bogged after WaterNSW stopped environmental flows, researchers say

These wetlands have international significance & are highly valued in the community as you can read in Voices from the Basin: www.mdba.gov.au/node/7580

This episode was deeply shocking. Just when I thought it could get no worse you threw in the fact of other countries on-selling our gas at phenomenal profit while Australians pay market prices. I’m incredulous. Recommended episode to others. Great work, thanks.

I agree with your comment about cost (they might have made it $1?) but swiping on & off gives data about transport usage.

SE Qld introduced 50 cent fares last year & it transformed public transport usage. Good public policy even without fuel crisis.

Thanks @harrycroft.bsky.social for a thoughtful & wonderful review. I feel seen. Am I fearless or foolhardy - not sure? But the book has certainly caused ripples!

We need to hear this & act.
“In mid January, the lower Murray was listed as a critically endangered ecological community under Australia’s nature laws. This means there’s an extremely high chance its native ecosystems will become extinct within the immediate future, in as little as ten years.”

In any climate-related disaster a battery operated radio is essential & the ABC is reliable. All the best Victoria. Stay safe & follow warnings.

How’s this? I was being recorded for a USA podcast on rivers & floods & chatting about the more-than human world & thinking about sounds, animals, emotions & humans. And my cat comes in & screams repeatedly (far more than a mild miaow). Ironic? Proving my point? Mmmm 😼 agency 💪

Horrifying headline but that lush undergrowth now dried is primed for fire.

I agree. It also seems to apply to my bookshop visits.

Great to share our Murray Darling Basin oral history project with colleagues @Professional Historians Association conference. If you are curious, type ‘Voices from the Basin’ into a search engine

This was such a well organised & friendly conference. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to think about the practice of history. Whose story are we telling? Why & how or could/should this be done.
