I have them listen to a podcast, report on what it said, connect it to our readings, and have three discussion questions to start conversation. It’s been very successful. They learn sone in-depth background and lead class.

It sucks that more and more Chinese food gets packaged in plastic containers instead of the classic takeout boxes. This isn't an environmental plea it's just sometimes I want to eat cold late night lo mein straight from the box with chopsticks like a depressed 80s detective.
I don't know what level you're working with, but Helen Vendler wrote some lovely reviews and analyses during her life. There are number of collections of her essays out there. This one from the Yale Review is about "The Waste Land." yalereview.org/article/vend...
All I want to eat for the rest of my life is an assortment of various kinds of dumplings. I include things like empanadas and patties in this category. Anything that is a filling inside dough.
