OF THE EMPIRE
We will be known as a culture that feared death and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity for the few and cared little for the penury of the many. We will be known as a culture that taught and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke little if at all about the quality of life for people (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a commodity. And they will say that this structure was held together politically, which it was, and they will say also that our politics was no more than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of the heart, and that the heart, in those days, was small, and hard, and full of meanness.

When in doubt, we go with a good canned tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Always.

I bought an actual Bible so I could get more information on certain biblical characters and events and I still think it’s nuts that the book never explains when and how Eve died

I value public media, and not just because I work there. I was a longtime listener/watcher before I was an employee. Why? Because I value fact-based info from diverse perspectives- like what I help provide at @marketplace.org and enjoy frm @apmreports.org @npr.org @pbsnews.org. #ProtectMyPublicMedia

The Supreme Court decision should have been 9-0. The fact it was 5-4 reveals how utterly compromised the bench is in favor of right-wing authoritarianism.

I guess most people don’t know that when the IRS cuts personnel for audits, they increase the audits on lower income returns cuz the rich people’s taxes are too hard to work with less personnel. But hey at least it’s something else to be wrong & angry about, right?

I think I'm going to keep a journal of random stuff I think will happen--anything from The Apocalypse to Finally Painting My Nails for Spring--and then go back after a few months and see what I can check off.

Dana Gould tweeted:

Thinking about Rush Limbaugh and how, now that he's dead, you never, ever hear about him. No one mentions anything he did.

Because what he did had no value.
It contributed nothing worthwhile to the culture. Nothing of lasting value.

He just made anger. Every day.
Rising, blooming & fading like a fart.
Then he died & was instantly replaced by a fleet of little replicas, farting fake fury five days a week.
Creating nothing of interest or artistic value to anyone.

Seriously, what an awful way to make a living.

1/ This post has been going around on Facebook. I'm not sure if this is a genuine question or a hypothetical one intended to highlight an irrational way of thinking, but I will attempt to answer as if it were genuine.
