Starfield conceptually is begging for Fallout-style ending slides, especially since the player can run through universes, arranging them to see any ending you like. That would give weight to player actions while letting you explore outcomes.
It's deeply strange that Bethesda thought this was some kind of amazing or inspirational universe that represented some kind of great adventure for humanity.
This is "99% of humans died and a handful are barely holding on". Which is actually a great idea for a setting if you understand & use it!
The better films/shows wove this into the narrative, but even then it's seems difficult to keep things going indefinitely.

The Multiverse stuff ran straight at two problems. First, nothing connected. Loki, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man & even Deadpool doing random multiverse stories that don't feel like the "same Multiverse" somehow.
But also, there's no bounds and hence no story to tell. It's the same characters and places.
