Bad Bunny's superbowl performance was pure brilliance. Last time I saw anything that good was Childish Gambino's This is America. But it was the opposite of dark and cynical, and live!

Senators urged Apple and Google to remove X and Grok from app stores over sexual deepfakes “Turning a blind eye to X’s egregious behavior would make a mockery of your moderation practices,” three Democratic senators wrote to Apple’s and Google’s CEOs.

New: Trio of Dem senators urge Apple and Google to enforce their own terms of service and ban X, Grok apps for their flood of nonconsensual sexual imagery.

I've repeatedly asked both Apple and Google about this for three days. They're completely silent, seemingly hoping the question just goes away.

Aftersun (2022) is another movie rated 7+ in Scandinavia and R in USA.

One of the best movies I've watched. watched with the family.

So many things in america are now the opposite of common sense. Pilgrims might have gone there for religious freedoms, but the tables have certainly turned now.

This has everything: malleabile encryption, complex packets, memory safety, unsafe terminal UI, wontfix.

Incredible.

Plaintext exfiltration if you just click a link.

I can’t be convinced gpg can be used safely.

"The Holdovers" is the perfect (quality) family xmas movie.

it's also hilarious americans have rated it R while Sweden rates it 7 and Italy 6. (ps you can trust sweden and italy)

when would you write the two columns separately (as opposed to always in same insert/update statement) ?

you have any numbers about extra storage space the hash column uses ? reduce the hash length ?

i don't know your specifics but both are trivial for most folk

to skip setup: astra.datastax.com

for just equality matches yeah, hash it into a separate column and index that. i don't know of any plans to directly index blobs. Given the workaround is simple, i hope it's not otherwise lacking in any way ?

Friendly reminder
NoSQL ≠ anti-SQL

NoSQL (2009, Johan Oskarsson & Eric Evans) is about architecture & needs, not the query syntax

It's about scale-out design, multiple writers, no single primary, & predictable growth as you add nodes

New APIs don’t define NoSQL; the distributed system design does

We call it denormalisation
It's catering to technical limitation (but what choice do you have?)

I hope future data platforms automatically do this for you, based on consumer usage+patterns. Ultimately it's the responsibility & best encapsulated in the storage engine (network locality issues aside)

The benevolent dictator model feels tempting for #OSS - faster, fewer debates. Then a PR argument with the single person in charge reminds me:

Speed isn’t health. Community is.
