Trotzdem machen beide unbeirrt…
I was bored out of my mind this past month, reading paper on paper polished with GenAI, devoid of personal stances, individual voices and idiosyncracies... I will definitely ask for oral presentations next time!
The return to pen and paper has been a common response to A.I. among professors, with sales of blue books rising significantly at certain universities. Some instructors are even considering oral exams. “Maybe we go all the way back to 450 B.C.,” one said.
...one more reason to shift away from whatsapp and anything meta-related

Maledetti mostri, siate maledetti
such an important contribution. the language of AI erases all kinds of inequalities and discrimination connected to linguisitic varieties in its illusion of 'neutrality'

A flyer for the book "Ideologies of Communication in Japan". The book cover is seen on the left side and on an e book reader in the middle. On the cover, a woman is holding a phone. In the background is an imagr of Kabukicho in Tokyo. On the upper right corner information. 50 percent off with the code ICJ50 on Multilingual Matters website. The code expires on 31 July 2025. In the lower right corner is a short appraisal by Jürgen Spitzmüller, University of Vienna.
I'm delighted to announce that my first edited volume (with Patrick Heinrich and Saana Santalahti) is available for pre-order on Multilingual Matters' website. There's a 50% discount with the code: ICJ50.
Our book explores new avenues to study ideologies of communication in Japan.
it is all an absurdity. except obergurgl.

Glad I got the opportunity to travel there in 2015...
😶 wtf
so many troubling things here. it really fucks me up how these stories gloss over the very obvious labour issues around fatigue, burnout, time as causes for human shortcomings, but never think to solve those problems, reaching for problematic solutions like AI instead. how very very sad for us all.
😦
what an apt read on the brink of fascist revivals around the globe (holding my breath for the german elections today). Gary Younge is an astute observer and analyst (even if too optimistic about the real possibility of electoral facism), also when it comes to language...
Can't spell neoliberal without AI
