Sunday AM net load forecasted to be 70GW. Morning will be the intervals to watch. Should be fine unless we get precip icing or the BESS fleet gets depleted like earlier this week. Euro models suggesting there’s a non zero chance of icing. Either way, could reach record for either winter or summer.
“Let the call go forth, to pretty much any nation we might feel like calling, that the past has been torched by a new and millennial generation of Americans…”
The first few BESS projects in ISONE got absolutely killer contracts. Those are all going to be great. Since then, this is it. Saturated queue of 4-8 hours relative to demand on a winter-peaking system that wants long-duration. Devs going to bid down to cost given competition. Not great.
Highly recommend the sad but powerful movie Train Dreams. My family came to the PNW at the same time the film takes place. I've heard how brutal making a living was. It's so rare to see a film about this place at that moment. And if you're not connected to the PNW, the performances are still superb.
Heck, even ERCOT's hourly load scalars are tipping to winter. Net load still peaks in summer. More concerning is just how difficult it'll be to overcome ELCC gaps. The first few solar/BESS sites in area will be great, and then that ELCC kicks in and you cannot solve the problem via mass deployment
