Reminds me of an argument Zenon Pylyshyn used against John Searle's Chinese Room argument back in 1980... see plato.stanford.edu/entries/chin...

For a while now I've been of the view that Self's death will only gradually become apparent through his writing.
And I still miss his sonorous 10 minute R4 essays.
I guess if the No10 official was wiling to give the impression to Robbins that they would do the necessary, but not keen to actually do the necessary. They would need to be confident the facts wouldn't emerge any time soon though?
Yes, but to whom at number ten? (Perhaps another official...?)

I think it's both/and: leaders matter, because they enable the work; we all matter, because we do the work. (Enabling the work is also work!)
Yep. I’m on it.

Something to do with World Radio day, in the Julian calendar?

But with no A/C, electric windows and or central locking?
I've heard this twice now, and happily listened to all his extraordinary stories all over again. Genius...

There is no urgent topic or global crisis so challenging that it can’t be made just a little bit worse by some self-important wankers with a podcast.

Can we all agree that a direct train is the ideal way to get to the airport?

The best remedy is to drink a litre of the Isis on the same day.
Or even from its original writer to themselves.
But those readers are mostly there to read because they write (maintain, etc.) in a way that might be analagous with academic writing/reading but not journalism or fiction, say?
Really need a proper physical software museum so visitors can admire the heart of CICS, CP/M and other pivotal code landmarks...

Not many people I know spend much time reading other people's code other than in preparation to fix/enhance it, or "reuse" it into something of their own.
All the code readers are code writers... (have heard something similar about Substack to be fair?)
Is Curtis Yarvin just too... irrelevant?

Driving with my son from Manchester to York yesterday, got enough fuel but keeping an eye on prices. Nearing the Asda garage on Rochdale road, a big queue spilling out - has the panic started?
Son peers closer.
"Nah - pumps are mostly free. That queue is for the McDonalds drive-thru."
You've missed Drax power station (as did I, but not my kids, who were suitably impressed by the now redundant Giant Coal Pulveriser...)
Maybe a raffle too?
So where was the 100th red balloon, eh?

I find a 60C wash with some soda crystals gets most things out.
He came and spoke at my school some time around 1982 and warned us about "logical spaghetti" and (if I recall) told us to draw flowcharts.
Had no idea what a legend he was until years later.
