Blessed transgender visibility day

In the UMC our baptismal vows call us to live lives empowered by the Holy Spirit to "resist evil, injustice, and oppression..."
I'm growing more convinced that the evils, injustice, and oppression we make excuses for are really just our idols we would rather worship instead of Jesus.
1. In Alaska, the right wing govt handpicked doctors to the Medical Board to ban trans youth care.
A month after after, one anti-trans doctor was arrested for child porn.
The day after he was bailed out, his home burned down, with reports suggesting he was found deceased.
Our latest wild story.
ICE unlawfully grabbed our client Rümeysa Öztürk off the street and sent her to a for-profit detention center in Louisiana — all for an op-ed she co-authored in her student paper.
What happened to Rümeysa is part of a broader crackdown on the First Amendment and immigrants' rights.
Bible nerds.
Let's say Mark was written by a Mathematician, John by a theater kid, and Luke by an activist. How would we classify Matthew?

I'm half way through my chats about KPop Demon hunters. Here's an update, along with information on all future episodes on my Substack.

Still looking for conversation partners to discuss "How It's Done" and "Takedown."
Theologies of KPop Demon Hunter Episode 1 Sept 29th Rev. Yost & Tom Rim
It's time to start the Theologies of KPop Demon Hunter series. I'll be livestreaming the conversation on Twitch & YouTube (links in bio). The first episode is an overview with my friend Tom Rim, and we'll go live on Sept 29th around 2 PM EST.
Update: It is now an 8-episode video podcast, so I write less and get to have conversations with friends. Anyone wanna chat with me about a particular song from the film?
On mile 5 out of 12. Already listened to the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack twice. I've got the outline for a (Queer) Gospel according to KPop Demon Hunters written. Bog posts coming soon.
No one is independently wealthy. We're all connected. Wealth gained by one is hoarded from others.

Join me for a virtual coworking retreat! July 7th-10th.
This is a space for body doubling to get organized and share ideas. It is designed for clergy and spiritual leaders but is open to anyone who needs a space to cowork virtually.
Virtual Coworking retreat poster. Details in the thread. Images include a group of femmes working around desks and a screenshot of Yost's 8-bit avatar sitting at a blue desk with a rainbow rug, while there are a bunch of empty desks around them with the caption "claim and customize your desk". Next to an empty desk is the dog for the space.
I have gone on a few planning retreats in the past year, and the body doubling has helped me get things done and have people around me to bounce ideas off of. Since I won't attend one this June (sorry, friends), I will try to make one virtually.
And I made new friends with some awesome librarians.
God is good. Trans kids are beloved and worth all the care in the world. This non-binary pastor is exhausted and that damn paper still needs to get finished.
And then, I got to see one of my former GSA kids from the COVID years for the first time in person. Give him a huge hug, let him know that he is absolutely amazing and beloved by the Divine. And even got to give him a paper copy of the blessing I wrote for him when he started T just two Sundays ago.
Then I had some good conversations with Chaplain Chris and Pastor Tim about the Bible and God's love for people where I was able to practice curiosity to better understand them while they were there protesting the event. The gazette even got a pretty solid photo of me in one of those conversations.

Best Transgender Day of Visibility ever.
Special thanks to the Maryland Republican Party for making sure I knew about the Trans Pride party at the Glen Burnie library.
I was able to go there early and almost finish my DMin paper that is due tomorrow.
History is a reminder that pandemics kill, but they also unsettle fragile social experiments that purport to embrace diversity. The last major pandemic, in 1918, was followed by race riots and massacres in 38 cities in 1919, now known as the Red Summer.... It's easy to see a parallel between then and now. Many point to potential positive outcomes from what the COVID-19 pandemic and this year's global protests against police violence have exposed. But there should be caution along with the optimism and action. After the Red Summer came the Black Wall Street massacre and other forms of retribution: the passing of the Johnson-Reed Act of 1924, which banned Chinese immigration and imposed immigration quotas, and the rise of the Ku Klux Klan. (From a 2020 article by Paul Rucker) It seems that our deepest animosities surface when we are facing our deepest fears.
Helpful historical context from Dr. Barbara A. Holmes's Crisis Contemplation.
If you have time this Saturday (3/15) at 1:30 PM in Elkridge, MD I'll be offering a spiritual practices workshop as a way to develop a connected contemplative community during these unstable times.
‘So far this year about two children a week have been killed’ in the West Bank. ‘What sets Ayman al-Hammouni’s case apart is the clarity of the evidence, illustrated by footage from two security cameras, that tells the story of the child’s last moments’ www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...
Implying straight men doing evil things are only doing what they’re doing are secretly gay is horribly homophobic and I’m tired of saying it
We just received word that the DOJ has begun removing data detailing criminal charges and convictions related to Trump loyalists. This started with records from the January 6th insurrection, but additional records are now being erased. We will keep you updated once we have more info.
Any need for an environmental molecular biologist?
Post from user (@growing_daniel) that says, "Yeah bro I can't believe the guy who is all over the Epstein flight logs redacted the Epstein files."
I’m shocked, I tell you. Shocked.
The "NOT STEPPING DOWN" Playbook:
🍊💩🤡 openly touted a third term at CPAC, calling himself King, desperate to cling to power, repeating the same playbook, from Caesar to Putin.
In my latest Substack, I mapped these steps & conditions into a comprehensive table and analysis: tinyurl.com/2433tm2h
The workshop balances contemplative practices and active engagement with the world, drawing on diverse spiritual traditions. We'll provide you with booklets, but you may want to bring a journal and a text that you think is sacred or meaningful.
