Windfox, introduced in 2007, was an extension for Firefox and displayed current wind conditions right in your status bar.

In addition to that, Windfox notified you when the wind speed at your spot exceeded a configured threshold. This was the predecessor of our Windfinder Plus Wind Alert.

A “Scale of Happiness” graphic from Windfinder displays seven emoji faces representing different wind-speed levels for outdoor and water sports. The scale shows wind speeds from 0 to 30 knots, progressing from neutral to excited expressions. The background color shifts from dark blue at low wind speeds to bright red at high wind speeds. Text below asks, “Where is your sweet spot?” with the Windfinder logo above the title.

A graphic with a dark ocean-textured background and the Windfinder logo at the top. Large white text reads “Once upon a time, …”. On the left is an old, pixelated phone-style screenshot of the early Windfinder software “Windfinder 2.0.16,” showing a small wind chart with red and blue graph lines. To the right, white text explains that before the Windfinder app existed, there was “Javawind2,” a small program that provided surf weather information on early phones and PDAs by pulling wind and wave data over GPRS, HSCSD, or modem connections.
