this is the funniest exchange I have seen on bluesky. I was laughing out loud on a crowded commuter train, people gave me concerning looks. I'm still laughing now. No emojis do this justice. Brilliant and I miss some of those end of day calls we used to do.

My son, Leo, got his master’s result this week. Like his sister, he did amazingly well and I couldn’t be prouder and happier. Felt like I had to say this somewhere (not there or there, and deleted that years ago), just to say yay and celebrate a big thing and all of the work and effort.
Thanks David and that's very kind of you. All good and I hope you are well too. I really believe this work will happen eventually and reading @richardpope.org 's excellent #platformland only reinforces that.
Thanks David. Totally agree and I regret not writing up more, making the work public and recording/sharing things like the show and tells.
time, work in recovery mode and under far more scrutiny (panic and scared mode). I think it might be another prime example of a large programme consuming all of the opportunities for a number of years. What Ben is flagging is the end result of that. Sorry - longer than I had planned.
department to use all of the GDS platform services at the time. The new Basic service was quite an improvement and managed well with big spikes for covid volunteers. Needless to say getting that far was really difficult (legal. policy, IT, IT, IT and culture), we had to make up years of development
which is why these run into millions a year. That's the service I helped with, it passed service assessments as a few of us were able to convince the ceo at the time to break out of their very large (and some might say, failing) programme. We created an in-house team and DBS were the first
Tentatively admitting I helped set up a digital team for DBS in 2016 (gulp). There's so much background and context, and it was another factor that led me to ending my 23+ years as a CS.
On your question around checks, there's multiple levels of checks. The basic service focuses on convictions
Picture at Southbank Centre, by Yinka Ilori called Forever, 2024. Bold visual saying 'Forever' in (I think) neon pink, on checkered blue background. Edge is surrounding red hearts on yellow and green. A contemporary design inspired by Tavares Strachan's installation 'You Belong Here'.
Saw this yesterday and loved it -https://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/bio/yinka-ilori/
This blog was sitting in my drafts since the start of the year and feels like a good time to post, covering some of my experiences of working on a x-gov data exchange whilst at GDS last year. Might be of interest medium.com/@jdosreme/ye...
First post, new year, new job. I saw a Show and Tell today with service design thinking and user research for new starter inductions. This is so important and was great, people are the thing, landing them well has a real impact. It’s not really about swag, just being thought about at a human level 🙌
GDX…(I think it’s all stopped now but might have that wrong). I must catch up with Darwin and hope he is good. I’m working on the electronic Referral Service at the NHS.
Oh dear, what did I do? And hi, hope you are well
