“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back to a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”
IT SAVES PUBLIC MONEY to house people.

Okay CTA. This is a good sign.

I don’t think people around the world realize how bad the attack on Lebanon was today. It’s BAD. Like 9/11 BAD. Hospitals are overflowing and do not have enough blood. We still don’t know what the death toll is.
This is TERRORISM. Pure and Simple.
April 8. Never forget.

Wanna know WHY a Seven journalist is pretending that renewables are pushing up energy prices? Oh that’s right… Seven Group own fossil fuel assets and want to exploit more of them.
this made me do an Edna Krabappel laugh. "leaked blog post"...like someone wrote a blog post that wasn't intended to be published?
I don't know how anyone else feels about this, but to me, sharing a screenshot of chatbot output to make a point of some kind is an excellent way to undermine any credibility that might otherwise be granted to you in the context of whatever you're trying to say.
A statement on behalf of the Australian Cartoonists Association regarding James Hillier aka Nordacious and the QLD Government:
got an answer quicker than expected. the mural has now been censored.
note how the watermelons are gone?
It'll be fascinating to look at the road and pt usage stats coming out of Victoria over the next month. Free PT won't be a panacea but it'll basically be a natural experiment that could provide a mountain of very useful data for policy-makers to use

Dear governments of the world,
There are too many psychopaths in power nowadays.
Please eliminate three.
I am not a crackpot.
News Corp (previously News Ltd) was founded by the mining industry with the express purpose of spreading propaganda. A century later it's still serving that purpose.

And I am so, so, so angry at the stupid culture wars and deliberate blocks put in place to the nation being able to have energy sovereignty. That any chance we had of transitioning the energy economy was derailed decades ago by fu*kers simping for fossil fuel. Energy security IS national security
I vividly remember the first time I filled a petrol tank to full. Felt like a huge moment, and while I am lucky enough to have experienced social mobility (and it is luck - I don't work any harder or try harder than someone stuck in insecure work -I'be just been more fortunate) it doesn't leave you
While it is very noble to think of farmers and the transport industry (and mining companies will be just fine, thank you very much) it's the working poor and the unemployed who will suffer without help, and with very limited advocacy.
This is just to say, rationing always happens, it's just done by price and it's always, always, always the poorest among us who pay the most. Can't afford to fill it up, always at the mercy of the fluctuating price and at a certain point, you just have to forego.
When I was growing up, I remember my parents scraping together $5 for fuel to make it to work. We couldn't go to friend's houses because we couldn't spare the fuel, and every trip needed to be accounted and planned for. If the petrol price went up, we stayed home. (No public transport) (cont)
Would they be investigating this mural if there were no watermelon slices?
If this mural falls under the hate speech laws, it's pretty incontrovertible evidence that what they are actually banning is pro-palestine sentiment, not hate speech.
Queensland Police are now investigating a South Brisbane mural by Scottie Marsh under the new hate speech laws. It says "River to the Sea" and features an image of John Farnham and some watermelon slices.
I love tone indicators but 🫲Donald Trump tone indicators? That's really going too far.🫱

"You're right. A reporter free news room isn't just a sound business decision—it's the future. Shifting 24/7 coverage to digital reporters will reduce human error, minimise costs, and free up capacity for LGBTQ+ folk to focus on what truly matters."
