‘The Nights are Quiet in Tehran’ by Shida Bazyar.

It’s on the shortlist for the International Booker Prize.

I’ve read all the others and want to make my own prediction for the winner

March reading was dominated by the International Booker longlist. So many interesting books that I probably wouldn’t have found otherwise.
Very surprised and disappointed that The Remembered Soldier wasn’t on the short list 😡

Exactly! I’m saving my last Cormac McCarthy book . I know with certainty that I will enjoy it but it’s sort of for a rainy day when nothing else will do 😊

I really enjoyed it and I hope you do too. I still think about it occasionally which is usually the sign of a good book

I’m retired but that doesn’t solve the problem - I have plenty of time to read but I also have more time to buy books…….

Have you read ‘Fair stood the Wind for France’ by HE Bates? It has a similar vibe for me - quiet but powerful

I’m curious about ‘The Party’. I keep picking it up in bookshops but so far have resisted buying it. My February reads were very mixed

Just realised that I didn’t post my January reads - I went a bit book crazy 😄
2 were book club choices

I think The Remembered Soldier sounds fabulous and I really like the look of The Director. Some others look challenging and out of my comfort zone but that’s the great thing about reading the Bookers - sometimes you find an absolute treasure that you wouldn’t normally pick up.

I’m so envious - I’m waiting for my books to arrive. So many interesting books!

Good luck. I admire your determination. I’m splitting the long list with my book buddy to make it more manageable

Oh I’m envious
I really want to read all of those. I’ve just started volume one of ‘On the Calculation of Volume’ and it’s great.
My book buddy and I are going to read all the long list between us and yours are some of the books I hope are on it.

I surprised myself by loving Piranesi! I would never have chosen it but it was for a book club. I got lost in it and didn’t want it to end

If it’s advertised as ‘as new’ then I expect it in pristine condition. I always complain if it’s not and usually get a refund. I’m picky and only like clean books so I expect to pay a bit more for them in that condition

That is so true!

Do your own thing cos you’ll never please everyone 😊

June reading was a very mixed bunch!
From the best 5***** to a book I thought was dreadful and gave the lowest mark.
Safe to say I’m not a fan of Kate Atkinson but maybe this was not one of her better books.

Don’t give up on it! It took me quite a while to get into it and then I loved it and didn’t want it to end.
