One may also be interpreted in the foundational sense, as in a foundation or basement of a home. As the base, it may represent the residence or home base.

a particular goal, or a written will; but leans toward the latter, as it can also be a document, letter, contract, passport, a base of operations.

The solo nature of one suggests some time alone to reflect on your intentions before proceeding.

Playing cards are not read the same as tarot. We think of clubs as correlating to wands/staves, but they actually represent activity in the sense of work & business, in money & possessions. The A ♣️ does indicate will — whether in the fiery, determined way of pursuing…

we can pull some similarities with more modern interpretations, as the club can be seen as energizing the figure being created, or even creating the persona. Regardless, it appears to be the beginning of a creation, and their little red-cheeked faces seem *very* determined.

In Sola Busca, 2 puttis appear to hold a club coming up out of (or are they lowering it into) the cavity of the armor? Are they turning it? Sculpting it to form the head? I doubt we'll ever know the original meanings in this deck, but

Oh, true. And whiteness. But producing a deck for Waite at that time, I know she was creating the very standard Brit expectations of the early 20th C. I wonder what she would have created on her own. 🤔

Perhaps similar, since that was her world, but fun to think about.

Yes! Using tarot in ancestral lineage healing and IFS work is so transformative.

I drifted so far from RWS, always searching for better, prettier, darker; and now after decades I really appreciate all that deck has. I use it the most for reading others because it has so much to point the querent to.

1JJ Swiss from the early 70s that I found it in the basement of my childhood home. Card stock is superior - US Games doesn’t make ‘em like that anymore!

In excess, we may be placing an overimportance on it, which can be counterproductive by generating hasty, impetuous, or bold behavior. We can jump the gun and miss the opportunity.

Where there is a lack of fire, we hold back, missing the opportunity out of fear, complacency, or lack of focus. Our task here is to identify what may be holding us back.

The theme of the card is the impetus to take action, but the cards have spectrums of meaning. How does the card express in deficiency and excess?

So as the initiation of our energy & identity, the Ace of Wands implores us to take action. It’s raring to go, to grasp the force that we might actualize it in our lives. What is the inner light that drives you?

PCS stays true to the Book T description: the Root of the Power of Fire; so not much to read into it. Waite lists beginning, source, birth, origin, creation, invention, principle, the starting point of enterprises and the virility behind them.

So phallic, no?

The Waite-Smith stays true to the older (i.e.,16th C) woodcuts for this card, and the meanings of the aces are pretty consistent across eras, with a hand issuing the suit symbol from a billowy sleeve or cloud.

Representing fire, wands or Staves deal with the inner spark that drives our actions. It’s our vitality, enthusiasm, ambition, passion, drive, creativity, and identity. It’s how we express the Self.

Combined with the nature of one, they indicate the energy of impetus with new buds or a red center.

Ace of Staves: initiates + what we want [action]

The 1s begin the suits and, as the seed, they hold the fullest potential of the suit. In trad decks, they are often being held out for us. Will you take it?

Yeah, this would be a 40 week endeavor (or, 56 with courts), and my ADD brain doesn’t usually like to finish things I start unless it involves other people, so I hope others will add input and thoughtful consideration of the intersections and differences. Would this be interesting, to you?

So, one day is the pip, another Waite-Smith, then throw in some introspective / therapeutic perspectives, then Sola Busca’s oddball imagery, maybe even some playing cards and lenormand. It’s mostly for me to be accountable to my own studies, but also to show how different these systems are.

I’ve just been observing here, so far; but as a way to get myself back into daily posts, I'm thinking of starting a project on Thursday’s 🌚 of comparing cards across different styles of reading, 1 card per week 👇
