“This is a systemic violent act, to be detaining children, that has long-term consequences,” Kelley said. “It’s massively detrimental to the well-being of these families and our whole communities.”

You have twinleaf! Lucky!
Bloodroot with white petals and a bright yellow center. Photo from Wednesday.
Big lime-green leaves next to a small, dark-red curved skunk cabbage bract that encloses the flower.
The backside of 12 blooming white hepatica flowers on tall, spindly stems. At the ground are several finger-like leaves covered in fuzz emerging from the ground.
3 cute white false rue anemone flowers, each with 5 round petals. They're lined up in a diagonal with shortest on the left and tallest on the right.
The bloodroot was spotted, as lovely as always. Didn't have enough time on Wednesday so I went back today. Skunk cabbage is cabbaging, hepatica is growing leaves (which come out after the flowers), and false rue anemone is starting strong. Still *lots* more spring flowers to come. #NativePlants
Screengrab from an Instagram reel by MorganWolfeNews, with a visible caption with yellow letters on a dark-red background reading And let me tell you why. A screengrab of the Gophers gymnastics team social media post is in the background, showing the gymnasts in a huddle and the championship logo. The words Minnesota Gymnastics Final Four Bound are partially covered by Morgan holding a microphone.
Criticism of yesterday's coverage of the NCAA gymnastics final. I was also disappointed. (Love her choice of maroon and gold captions.) www.instagram.com/reel/DXTBH3D...
Side note: I tried to go to A Bar of Their Own but it was so full they were directing people across the street to Pizza Lucé!
Rotary phone inside a wooden structure with a small overhang. A small metal sign inside says Telephone of the wind, with notes about its purpose and how to use it. The words end with Dedicated to the memory of Katrina.
I saw one yesterday at Vadnais-Snail Lakes Regional Park (on the north side of the wetland at the Snail Lake section). It's new this year!
Virginia waterleaf leaves with a dusting of snow so the spots that look like water droplets are barely visible.
Virginia snowleaf. #NativePlants
So cool! Plus, Brooklyn Rowray is the first Gopher in 36 years to win an individual national title (balance beam). *And* 3 other gymnasts also earned All-America honors.
The championship (nicknamed "Four on the Floor") is Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. central on ABC.
They just clinched 2nd, Gophers are going to the Finals!!!
Route 68D bus, number 1888, which looks the same as the bus above except without the "It's electric!" sticker.
@hpan3.bsky.social Are the buses that are numbered in the 1800s the same, just not electric? I see a lot of these too. (Including one that was a substitute bus on the A Line.)
Happy Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden Opening Day to all who celebrate 😊 Several spring ephemerals should be blooming after the last week of warm weather. I'm hoping to see bloodroots when I visit later today. #NativePlants
Overcrowding, bad (no) medical care, not enough food, filth — these are average and expected in this country’s jails and prisons everywhere.
ICE detention conditions aren’t below the norm — that’s the norm. That’s what 2 million ppl and their families experience every day.
The first flower in my yard is *always* hepatica. Coincidentally, I found it on April 13 last year. But I dug it up last fall to try to pull out the creeping bellflower that had crept into it. (See also: bellflower leaf in the spring beauty above.) Hepatica will likely recover but is behind so far.
Tiny white flower with 5 overlapping petals. Has long, narrow, grass-like leaves. There's a curved leaf right behind it that unfortunately is creeping bellflower.
Here we go: the first wildflower to bloom in my yard in 2026! I'm really surprised it's this (not very pink) spring beauty; last year it first flowered on May 3. There aren't even any violets yet.
🌱: Claytonia virginica (Virginia spring beauty)
📆: April 13, 2026

I transferred between buses at Nicollet Mall a month-ish ago. (First time in forever that I was in that spot.) While the shelters are nice, I wondered how the disconnected shelter and stop locations work in practice. Sorry to hear that the answer is "not well."

Will 2026 be the year that the WNBA finally starts using alt text on their posts? Not yet, unfortunately.

Hello, I made you a feed of your cats watching the Artemis II splashdown bsky.app/profile/did:...
Oops, apparently the "overlaid image of the spacecraft" I wrote in the alt text was YouTube on my phone, not part of the broadcast 😅

Screengrab from NASA's YouTube feed showing the mission control room, with an overlaid image of the spacecraft. At the bottom left are captions from the middle of a sentence reading "vehicle will enter the Earth's atmosphere at an altitude of".
Another cool thing about the Artemis II mission is the care that NASA has shown with captions throughout the trip. They're edited live captions, not just automatic captions that always have typos and incorrect words. #a11y
From the NASA mission blog:
Splashdown is targeted for 8:07 p.m. EDT (5:07 p.m. PDT) off the coast of San Diego.
In 1 hour 11 minutes, according to the broadcast. (Spoken about 4 minutes ago, so about 1 hour 7 minutes from now.)

Light rail train at Central Station in downtown Saint Paul. The front car has the regular Metro Transit pattern, and the back car is fully wrapped with an NDSU ad.
Green Line trains only had 2 cars today.
wish we were still living in a time when this picture could catalyze an entire environmental movement as humans realize all we have is this pale blue dot
Wisconsin polls close at 8 p.m.

Deeply in awe of the images coming from space as I am of the President saying he will murder millions of people. I don’t know if I’m built for such a contrast.
Sunday too.
As part of the flyby, crew will lose comm with Earth for ~45 minutes. If they were to emerge from the pass and never regain comm with Earth, we have a protocol for that - called Permanent Communications Loss - that enables the crew to being able to return to Earth without any communications.
The Orion spacecraft on the left, a dim crescent moon in the middle, and a tiny and even thinner crescent earth at the right.
"As we prepare to go out of radio communication, we're still able to feel your love from Earth. And to all of you down there on Earth and around Earth, we love you from the moon. ... We will see you on the other side."

The Green Line has 3-car trains today.
On the NASA #Artemis II livestream just now: "... and the song you heard was Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan to kick off the crew's day" 🩷🐴🌈
