Web Day Out - 12 March 2026 — Polytechnic On March 12th I had the pleasure of attending Clearleft's latest conference, Web Day Out, in beautiful Brighton.

After a dose of the lurgy, and some issues with my server, I finally managed to write up my thoughts about #WebDayOut last month (tldr: it was bloody brilliant).

Thinking you’re apolitical is like thinking you “don’t have an accent”—it just means you haven’t thought about it very much.

Used a throwaway address for a free Audible trial, stripped the DRM out of them, then bought another copy of the book from a local bookshop to donate to a charity shop.

I’m a huge fan of both the book and the audiobook (which is incredible if you haven’t given it a listen) so I was nervous, but they’ve really done it justice.

Project Hail Mary was everything I hoped it would be. What a wonderful adaptation.

To mark the start of our campaign to Save the UPP we recreated a photo from the early days of the cinema. Thanks to everyone who braved the wind to join us, including our young supporters from East Oxford Primary School and @anneliesedodds MP.

A piano painted in Pride colours, adorned with stars and hearts. It has a sign saying “Play Me” across the top, but the lid is padlocked. It’s giving a real mixed messages vibe.

Heading back to Oxford after an excellent time at #WebDayOut, catching up with old friends, making new ones, and lots of brain food.

Any conference in Brighton should start with a bracing seafront walk. And today was very bracing!

I posted one of those “favourite albums/films/etc of 2025” things that I tend to do at this time of year.

Have a read, maybe you’ll discover a new favourite thing.

Many of you will have started your christmas breaks, but trust me, this 30mins is worth it. @sachajudd.com's closing from #FFConf is now live. It's not your usual nostalgia/look at what it was, but real meaty inspiration as to what we can do now. Treat yourself! www.youtube.com/watch?v=29-s...

I'm sharing this here, as I have on Facebook and Instagram, but there's no account on here to share from, and I just think this is wonderful.

A really good balance of design and implementation, and appears to achieve everything it set out to do, and it *SO* appeals to my inner 'work nerd'.

This kind of versatility doesn't get enough credit IMO because it's considered more critically respectable to maintain a distinctive style and keep returning to the same themes.
