There are some things I think that need to be more future oriented and transparent when seeking funding (like the "are quail on cocaine more sexually active" and "shrimp treadmill" studies), but I totally agree. There are so many studies that lead to growth. I really loved the origami/space study.

Yeeeah. Grad students tried to strike but... It did not work very well.

Yeah... Basically said "Most of you could possibly be replaced in the next ten years by free courses and AI translators. No one reads anymore." I wanted to scream... "Scientists explain HOW we do things, historians explain the IRL effects, and the rest of the humanities explains WHY we do things!"

Combine that with the fact that we made $15k per year but got taxed at $80k rates because our scholarship was income...

I once sat in on a meeting where a dean said we weren't as good of an investment because grad students in our humanities department only worked with 50 students per semester while chem GAs had 100 each. It was actually the exact same impact, except we taught and chem GAs only graded.

Job hunting in academia is so weird... "What do you mean I have to wait seven months before I get an update on my application?" "I have an interview on Friday? Great, see you th- oh, you've cancelled because you hired someone between scheduling my interview and my interview."

Grading and depression do NOT mix. I have been up and down since I learned I was getting laid off and the last weeks of March were hard... Now I've been in fast overload procrastination mode for two weeks and it's put me so far behind... And the semester ends on May 4. *Screaming*
