I missed the Moon due to clouds tonight, but in exchange for that loss they gave me a fabulous #sunset.

The Moon must be flat; the cat's pushed the Earth off the edge! 😁

I wanted to try a day earlier, but the clouds were not having any of it. I'm fortunate in having a gap in the trees at just the right azimuth for moonset in April. I got it at 3% last year as a plane photo bombed it, but you'd have to scroll a long way to find the pic.

Thanks! It's the slimmest crescent I've ever captured. I got it at 2.4%, but chose a photo at 2.5% as it looked nicer.

I don't see mention of the Nikon Z9 that was included at the last minute.

The mock cherry and almond #blossom are doing well, this spring. I grabbed some quick photos, this morning.

The split in the log next to the Queen's head and Jeffrey's head is identical. There is a knot in one of the logs above them that is identical in both photos. It is 100% certain to be the same cabin. Maybe the outdoor scene has been adjusted, but not certain.

Sure does! And what a way to get it!

Bluesky Service Interruption - Bluesky An update on the service interruption which began 11:40pm PDT on April 15, 2026.

Yes, I've just found out what happened. It was, as I predicted yesterday, a DDOS attack.

Bluesky down? Current problems and outages - GB Real-time problems and outages for Bluesky. Is Bluesky down? Here you see what is going on.

I've only seen this:

downdetector.co.uk/status/blues...

No indications of what happened. I've been unable to access BS for most of today. I wondered if it was a DDOS.

Hidden soil fungi stole bacterial DNA to control the rain

Are #funghi the key to environmentally friendly ski slopes, better tasting frozen vegetables and eco-friendly refrigerants or even cloud seeding? With code borrowed from #bacteria, through horizontal #gene transfer they can raise the freezing point of water in clouds.

Down for over 3 hours for me, in the UK.

Let's hope this is the first small step towards full FoM for us all.

Hotdogs in the UK are boiled. I've never heard of grilling them, here. If I eat sausage in bread, I fry the sausages, then we call it a sausage cob. Much tastier!

At what point should NASA stop waiting and get on with the task at hand? This is a space race against China. NASA had already waited long enough.

As newly discovered moons around Saturn and Jupiter were announced this week, a puzzle remains as to how Jupiter got four large moons and Saturn only one. New studies suggest it's strong magnetic field created cavities in its disc for large moons to grow in.

A lot of significant testing was carried out by Artemis II:

Life Support Systems (ECLSS)
Laser Communications (O2O)
Manual Piloting (Hybrid Display System)
Biomedical Monitoring (AVATAR)
Orion Crew Survival System Suits
Emergency Upgrades

It's not NASA's fault the lander was not ready.

Your statement is inaccurate. It is not the Artemis Moon landing project which is affected. It is THEMIS-Artemis, a mission in place since 2011 to study the Moon's interaction with the solar wind, magnetic reconnection, and the lunar environment.

There’s less ice in moon’s shadows than 1st thought

There is less water ice on the Moon than previously thought according to a survey by NASA's Shadow cam. In shadowed regions at the poles it was expected there would be 20-30% water, but they found less than 10%. This could impact future missions
