Good for him. A physics prof and Nobel laureate in my graduate dept does the same. He needs his 9 hours of sleep to function and prioritizes early bed time. No midnight emails to grad students!

Nothing has killed more soldiers in the history of humanity than disease. While worst is a more complicated question Hegseth is absolutely the dumbest secretary of defense the United States has ever had. bsky.app/profile/ones...

How 2 fringe groups and a friendly judge helped pull off Sheriff Chad Bianco’s ballot seizure Emails obtained by CalMatters trace the development of a years-long case that ultimately led to the unprecedented seizure of 650,000 ballots.

Anat Rubin and I co-wrote a story for @calmatters.org about the people behind Sheriff Chad Bianco's "election investigation" -- sovereign citizens, Christian nationalists, and "constitutional sheriffs."

Owning a car is a privilege. The freedom to move however we choose should be a right for anyone in the USA. I use my bike to get around, and removing bike lanes and other bike infrastructure will create more traffic and less freedom for all. @governor.pa.gov Keep funding bike infrastructure!

reducing vaccine requirements and cutting rations to gruel, is, well, it's attempting to recreate the conditions of the old Department of War (readiness levels depleted from sickness and malnutrition).

One of the things you see a lot of when you read up on military history is that prior to, oh, let's say WW1 and better hygiene/vaccines, most military losses were from disease and not combat. So many died.

Anyway, time to take a big sip of water and read the latest news from the Pentagon.

Yeah, it's 25 min from Harbor Gateway to PCH along Artesia, another 10-15 minutes to Pier and Hermosa Ave.
E line from DTLA is so slow, and then you have to walk down a steep ramp.
J + TT13 from USC to the sand in Hermosa can be about the same time. Which is why so many USC students live in HB

More and more I am seeing "I would never use it for anything creative but I generative AI seems fine for coding" and I wonder if people realize that coding is also a creative field and the generated code is also coming from scraped and plagiarized human code, please don't give coding a special pass

That said, this city council and mayor election will have serious consequences for sustainable transportation in Torrance & the whole South Bay. Indivisible SB has endorsed the candidates that would be best for sustainability and moving away from car dependence

There are a lot of jobs across the street (Crenshaw), including Honda. It’s an easy flat mile bike ride to Torrance Civic Center. The location is growing on me.

And the transit center has signed leases with cafes and restaurants. There’s also offices and a community meeting room so the area is not desolate like other transit centers and park and rides

It’s because of a referendum that put into the city charter that the city cannot charge for parking. So they had to find a parcel along the ROW that they could afford, and with space for parking.
It’s a flat mi between old Town Torrance and the TC. They are building a Class 1/4 bikeway between them

We bought in our neighborhood partly because Torrance 8 got us to work when not biking. Torrance 8 and 13 (+bikes) are why we could be a 1 car family

Starting this summer, a retro Trolley bus will run a modified Route 3, providing 15 minute headways (interleaved with regular Route 3 between RB and LB) between Del Amo Mall and Redondo Beach pier.
Torrance transit staff is serious about transit, and dragging their elected officials along

Torrance Transit is the MVP for South Bay Transit. 30 minute headways for 13 and 3 (to beach) and 8 to LAX. 1 and 10 also take you to the C line, which goes to LAX

I just remembered that Metro Micro will take you and your beach gear, even surfboards, to Dockweiler and El Segundo. Torrance 13 takes you from A/Rosa Parks and Harbor Gateway TC to Hermosa and Redondo Beach piers.

Even though going hybrid is technically feasible, it increased accessibility. We have more zoom meetings, including virtual sewing circles where people sew and chat via zoom

One of the weirdest things about Covid was that it was a collective mass experience -- that we all experienced largely on our own.

No two Covid's were the same.

A lot of good recommendations in here. Community input is important but it needs to be early, representative, and include real consideration of trade-offs.
