the only environments modern pokemon knows how to put you in is boring olympic stadiums and plastic model village sets. 3d was a mistake!!!!!!

modern pokemon is a perfect game for nintendos modern visual design sensibilities and i dont mean that in a positive way LOL

that + being influenced by the childhood activities of the devs who were already adults by the 90s gives the game a waaaaay different (and imo FAR more compelling) feel than the semi-futuristic super smoothed over stuff people seem to eat up nowadays

i remember reading a post that talked about how a lot of old pokemon was sorta mired in the japanese economic downtown of the 90s, like, a modern pokemon game would definitely never have you running around an abandoned power plant
