Also doesn’t Clooney’s character mention he’s from Florida…? Probably helped with the accent.

Agree. Just took the “make a killing” from one of the character’s lines. Nobody was getting rich in that life. Thanks for saying it better than I did! #hatm
And that’s a wrap. Thanks @herberthistory.bsky.social and #hatm for another good one and a great evening. See you all next time around…!
Really beautiful way to end the film- Linda Greenlaw taking the Hannah Boden out, with Billy Tyne’s voiceover repeating his description of being a swordfish captain. Beautiful- and tragic. #hatm
Billy recedes back into the wheelhouse. The captain goes down with the ship. #hatm
That shot of the Andrea Gail trying in vain to climb that giant wave, then capsizing. Heartbreaking. #hatm
Daughter just realized they’re not going to make it: “This is a terrible movie!”
#hatm
The Coast Guard really should get more credit for being the ones out there rescuing people in storms like this. #hatm
Climbing up to fix the radio antenna in the middle of a hurricane. Unreal. #hatm
Just needed a bit of levity. Seriously, this storm is terrifying. #hatm
If the ice machine hadn’t broken, would they have just waited out the storm? But facing the entire catch being spoiled, when they could make a killing… What would you do…? #hatm
“The Flemish Cap. Lots of fish. And lots of weather.” #hatm
“I always find the fish! Always! And I will this time!”
#hatm
Even knowing what happens, those satellite shots of the storm building still make me anxious. #hatm
“I got a woman I can’t stand to be more than two feet away from. But then again, I love to fish.”
“Then you got a problem.”
#hatm
Heading out- so beautiful. Easy to see the attraction. But man, tough industry. Rough life. #hatm
“You can’t be good unless you love it.”
Great speech by George Clooney there. #hatm
“I do want go with you. But I don’t want to be a fisherman.”
Hard life on families. #hatm
Don’t know anything about the fishing industry, but this happened in 1991. Billy Joel released Storm Front- with the song “The Downeaster Alexa,” about the declining industry, in 1989. #hatm
I forget how good the soundtrack is; always love James Horner. And the opening montage of the town makes you want to move to New England and become a fisherman. Just beautiful.
Though that’s partly because you can’t smell a movie… #hatm
I am so in for this one. Saw it years ago after reading Sebastian Junger’s book. Looking forward to seeing it again. #hatm
Well that’s a wrap. Vintage ‘80’s film. Vintage 80’s fun. And- Jean Claude Van Damme. Nice way to spend an evening. Thanks @herberthistory.bsky.social and #hatm !
“Anytime. Anyplace. Anywhere. I’ll be there.”
And that’s why Ray Jackson is in the movie. #hatm
Even the military guys there to arrest Frank are cheering for him. #hatm
Wait. Nobody saw the blinding powder fly through the air? I’m watching the live broadcast, and even I saw it. #hatm
Apparently underground martial arts competitions have no issues with gambling. Who knew? #hatm
Also, I really like Forest Whitaker, and this is early in his career, but his talent seems wasted here. Still fun to see him. #hatm
This would be a soundtrack of one-hit wonders. Except they were never wonders. Or hits. But so ‘80’s. Amazing. #hatm
“You can be the first Westerner to win this thing. You just have to keep a clear head!” #hatm
