And what rough draft, its opportunity come round at last,
Wooshes towards referee #2 to be trashed?

A mismatched manuscript with Times Roman body and Comic Sans footnotes
Is resting on an editor’s desk, while in emails
Real scholars indignantly refuse referee requests.
The cloak of jargon drops again; but now I know
That twenty years of sleep in a file cabinet
Were disturbed by a goofy CFP,

The assumptions lack all plausibility, while the conclusions
Are full of piffling immensity.
Surely some Rubicon is at hand;
Surely an Acceptance is at hand.
Acceptance! Hardly are those words out
When an imaginary travesty
Troubles my sight: in some respected journal’s office

THE SECOND DRAFT
Tweaking and tweaking in the lengthening paper
The writer cannot bear the tinkering;
Reasons fall apart; the thesis does not hold;
Mere gibberish is loosed on the reader, and everywhere
Engagement with the literature is faked.

Are there still people who believe there is no significant difference between the Democratic Party and the GOP?

That moment, long after your talk, when you finally grasp what your critic repeatedly and patiently tried to explain to you.

I love completing big projects simultaneously. Today, I finished a paper, a T&P review, a book manuscript, AND the laundry.

Remember when some folks thought the GOP leadership was acting on principle (e.g. pro-life, small gov). Nowadays no one is fooled.

Israeli embassy staffers killed in Washington aspired to Middle East bridge-building Friends and colleagues remember the couple as driven by a desire to forge regional ties through diplomacy, and for their 'unwavering belief' in peace and equality

That moment when you realize that you have been criticizing MAGA for bird-whistling political violence while tolerating pro-Palestinian demonstrators who do the same thing.

Trump thinks ivy league universities ought to deny admission to students with problematic ideologies. They are to be identified by broad criteria (e.g. national origin, associates). On these grounds, ivies ought to deny admission to children of high-level people in the Trump administration.

Universities now have a wonderful opportunity to increase their "viewpoint diversity" by teaching about those conservative thinkers who railed against the divine right of kings.

Dear Libertarians: When the Dems were in, you accused them of "infringement of liberty." Now we are looking at the real thing. This is your hour. Where the f*** are you?

College profs are not helpless. We can reach lots of voters. During the Vietnam war, profs held "teach-ins" outside of classes to inform students and discuss various views. Let's bring back teach-ins.

When your MAGA friends or relatives encounter delays or difficulties with a government agency, gently remind them that reducing gov. size means reducing gov. service so they know who to blame for their delays or difficulties.

Feeling helpless? Most of us are not in a position to hinder what Trump is doing now. But there is something we can do. The next election is only 1 1/2 years away. Start now. Persuade a Trump voter to switch. Then persuade another. Then another.

Prediction: The GOP will not be deterred from doing unpopular things by the prospect of losing the next election. Controlling President, House, Senate, and Court is a rare opportunity. The GOP will slam through their whole agenda. Forfeiting the election is a small price to pay.

As Trump sides with Russia, Europe decides to rearm. Remember how well an armed Europe worked out in the 20th century?

Other countries may still cooperate with us on short term projects, but for the foreseeable future, no one will trust America. Even when Trump leaves office, other nations will rightly fear that MAGA might someday return to power and betray any alliances. America is now friendless.

Trump says he is firing unnecessary workers. If they were unnecessary then gov. services will be unaffected. But if they were necessary, then gov. services will be hurt. So if you experience increased difficulties and/or delays in gov. services, blame the GOP for increasing government inefficiency.

My solution to the budget deficit: (1) Arrest Elon Musk on some trumped-up charge. (2) Declare him a flight risk. (3) Set bail at a level sufficient to deter him from jumping bail. (4) Postpone his trial indefinitely. (5) Presto: budget deficit erased.

New Yorkers Rally to Support Trans Youth Amid Concern Over Trump Order Thousands of protesters in Union Square called for action against an executive order that threatens to withhold federal funding from hospitals that provide gender-affirming care.

Among the speakers was Mirah Curzer [my daughter], whose 6-year-old daughter is trans. “Fear is not the answer,” Ms. Curzer told the crowd. “Our kids are on the front lines of the great battles of our time” she said. “They are fighting for you, so will you fight for them?”
