I am so honored to receive the 2026 Southern Book Prize for Nonfiction. I am especially grateful for this award since it is picked by indie booksellers and readers. My sincere thanks to everyone involved, especially the Southern Independent Booksellers Association.

Photo is taken inside a bookstore. Close up of a book on a stand. The cover shows that it is All These Ghosts by Silas House, with a card beneath that has a bookseller's review, including the phrase "I love this book!!!!!"
Hooray for All These Ghosts! Silas House's collection is the Top Book of 2025 at Fountain Bookstore in Richmond, VA (H/T for their photo). This kind of recognition is so important in independent publishing—congrats to Silas & the @blairpub.bsky.social team, where I'm proud to serve as poetry editor.

Day 8 “The Old Ways” by Silas House - 5 ⭐️
“I don’t mean it in a bad way, honey. That’s just who you are. You hate it here until you’re gone and then you get homesick.”
This story is perfection—as rich as the peanut butter candy Grandma Alpha and Blue are making during it.
I wondered if the trees were God. They were like
God in many respects: they stood silent, and most people
only noticed them when the need arose. Maybe all the
secrets to life were written on the surface of leaves, waiting
to be translated. Silas House, Parchment of Leaves

My short story, “Another Country”, is set on January 6 (Old Christmas/Day of Epiphany) and is a modern Appalachian retelling of Joyce’s “The Dead”. I hope you’ll have time to read it as the Twelve Days of Christmas come to an end.

In his debut crime novel, Silas House @silashouse.bsky.social gives us a gripping story and compelling characters, a classic page turner. Set in a small southern town of shared connections and histories, the book masterfully weaves motive and suspicion with intriguing clues on every page. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Silas shared some of his remarkable #poetry, and I was reminded of how powerful the #arts can be as we talk with the people around us about the importance of democracy and how much impact losing it would have on our lives

The contrast is stark.
I abhor ALL violence. No one deserves to be shot for their opinions, no matter how reprehensible.
I just wish we lived in a country where our elected GOP reps publicly mourned for murdered schoolchildren as passionately as they do for a person who devoted his life to division and vitriol.
Last day for this great deal. #BNPREORDER
