You’re correct that European food is not *uniformly* better, but the *median* (or typical, etc) is definitely better. Italian gas station food is better than basically all chain restaurant food.

Wales’s 20mph speed limit has cut road deaths. Why is there still even a debate? Research suggests the scheme may be more popular than thought, with consultations dominated by a loud minority

“Even with the caveats about limited data and untangling causation and correlation, the statistics are striking: the first year of a scheme in Wales where the speed limit on urban roads was lowered to 20mph resulted in about 100 fewer people killed or seriously injured.”

Had the same experience. My deer hunting relatives regularly make much more difficult shots.

I dream that one day our sidewalks will be as wide as our trucks.

the “administrative state” in practice is a lot of very hard working, practically anonymous people doing the thankless work of making this country run and a drug-addled dipshit is slandering them in order to steal our money for himself

50 Reasons Why Everyone Should Want More Walkable Streets From making you live longer to making cities more resilient: If you want a reason to make your city more walkable, it's in here.

“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath

Graphic showing a 9m track for metros can move as many people as a 175m wide road for cars.

Graphic showing a 9m track for metros can move as many people as a 175m wide road for cars.

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars.

Even if those cars are electric.

And then there’s all the parking.

OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc.

Choices.

Simple.

A fun fact about congestion pricing for the haters is that you only get charged one $9 toll to enter the congestion zone per day, no matter how many times you come in or out. It's $6 to ride the subway twice. You're spending three extra dollars.
