I have been working on this since my doctoral work at
@mpibrain.bsky.social and @goetheuni.bsky.social. I am so thrilled to have it finally in a good home 😁

NEW PAPER!
Our study, in the pipeline for years and now out in #JNeurosci, shows that a channel subunit called KChIP4a is a biophysical amplifier of inhibition and controls learning from negative experiences!

Thanks! That's wonderful feedback 😄
This Sunday I'll be at @sidewalkfilm.bsky.social , doing a a post-screening discussion of "Ratatouille". This is part of the Science on Screen initiative (scienceonscreen.org). I am more than happy to get to talk about how rats are cool and smart 😁

Thanks Alicia 😁
Thanks Laura! We are really excited about this project. High risk, high reward for sure
Thanks Drew!
Late announcement (due to distraction), but I am happy to share that the lab, together with our great collaborator Nuria Vendrell-Llopis, was awarded an NIMH R21! We are super excited to test some new ideas about how dopamine drives learning in brain computer interfaces! 🧠🖥️

... even if you miss other rewards? 😆😆😆 Seems like the investigator became the subject
Super cool work Laura!
It was a great pleasure! Wonderful to have you here :)
Permanent, and a core part of Birmingham's identity. It's a very nice place. But don't tell anyone please, otherwise cost of living and traffic will go up 🤣
In this month’s “Liftoff,” @shawnrhoadsphd.com talks about how he’ll implement hackathons to foster community in his lab, and @zurisullivan.bsky.social shares how weekly discussions about unfamiliar topics can encourage curiosity in a lab. bit.ly/3ZkMQl8

Sounds like a great opportunity!
Thank you Nao! You know, this made me reminisce on the past, and I remembered the impact you had on me as a graduate student when you did that sabbatical in Jochen's lab. Still remember your master class on TDRL and dopamine. Good times! 😀
Thank you Nicole!
Thank you so much Alicia!
Thank you Ali!
Thanks Drew!
Thanks so much Phil!

Big News! I am beyond honored to have received the American Psychological Association Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contributions to Psychology in animal learning and behavior! I am so grateful to my lab, mentors, colleagues, and institutions for all the support over the years!
Fantastic @arifahamid.bsky.social ! Gonna aim to go through it over the new year 😁
@thetransmitter.bsky.social’s “New Lab Directory” features a list of new neuroscience labs that opened in 2024-2025, and some set to launch in 2026. Check out the list to learn about the work of more than 50 new neuroscience labs. www.thetransmitter.org/community/th...

Fantastic @naoshigeuchida.bsky.social ! Congrats!
Most definitely (and I think it is at least "incomplete"), but that's true of all discoveries. That's somewhat orthogonal to impact, predictive power, and general inspiration for new work.
The RPE hypothesis of dopamine function. Hard to think of a basic theoretical mechanism that had a bigger impact in the field, except maybe the Hodgkin-Huxley model
Thanks UAB reporter for the very enthusiastic article 😁

Heading to SFN - I'll be at the UAB graduate fair stand on Sunday from 12-1pm, and otherwise open to talk shop with any prospective graduate student, postdoc, or trainnee. Feel free to message me if you are interested in the lab's work 😁 #Sfn2025 #SfN25 #SFN
Always the best work Nic - absolutely great!
