It wasn’t the 2030 goal that developing countries wanted, but it does address the concern that adaptation finance would stagnate after 2025, when the previous Glasgow goal of doubling from 2019 levels is due🧵

The way to go: Hawaii increases its tax on hotel rooms, rentals & cruise ships to fund the protection of shorelines (raising $100M/year!!). This move is supported by the hotel industry as it will 'improve the visitor experience.'👏

🇫🇷 G20 deputy and Task Force co-chair William Roos: « The way the @globalsolidaritylevies.org has analysed the new levies is great. We have a menu of options to be presented at political level. «  These levies should make an impact at home, visible for citizens, and support international action.

« We only have 1 planet – if we cannot work towards reducing emissions and protecting biodiversity we are in trouble.

There is an economic imperative for this. This is good economics, to have more efficient and progressive taxes. If there is a common bad, we need a solution through taxation. »

Vera Songwe, @globalsolidaritylevies.org expert: Solidarity is not just a feel good word, it’s about partnership and the right economics which work for people. We need to look into levies which are progressives and look into other revenue streams.
