I’ll Fly Away
It is Well with My Soul
How Great Thou Art (this is a tradition in my family for funerals and the triumphant last verse gets me every time)
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATHER
Here's the whole review (though I'm not sure how accessible this is going to be, academic journals are the worst)

Even at their most conservative, these women understand that the work of writing with a serious intent to reach others necessitates reading widely, wondering what other people think and why, and believing that language matters, and that alone is so radical and full of possibility. In 2026, for those of us living under rising Christofascism propped up by many of the same evangelical commonplaces Mannon maps, I think the example of these women provides renewed motivation for us to take seriously our everyday work of teaching rhetoric and writing, knowing that we may not make instant feminists out of our evangelical women students, but we may be helping them along one step of considering what lies beyond their stable beliefs.
A colleague wrote a review of my book that is unbelievably kind and perceptive. I most of all love this point from the conclusion:
I hope Trump gets one of the genealogy chapters with impossible names
Are they reading the WHOLE thing? for real?
me: "Has anyone watched the West Wing?"
student: "no but my mom does"
I should have predicted that
I will ask them!
Sure, Trump started the Iran war
But he’s ended it at least six times. Give the man a prize…
We're talking about the 25th Amendment in my Discourse & Democracy class today! I'm going to start the class by dodging any current events and instead watching the West Wing together:

Evangelical pastors support Trump because he lets them use the government to play celebrity and create content
(tho apparently not in this case)
Why wouldn't you want to fund this, and stop people from dying painful, premature deaths?
what did conferences used to feel like to you, and what do they feel like now?

I don’t recommend having kids unless you’re ready for scenes like this
In one example, I think church attendance hasn't recovered
HS students playing trombones along the 5k rte (I am not pictured)
I ran a 5k this morning! there were trombones!
I think bivocational pastors are great! But it can't mean you skimp on the theological training like that
I think they are afraid!
Three ducks crossing a busy road on campus
Boone wildlife this morning
do they believe in hell, or in god? is religion purely a grift for them?
Did Hegseth fire the people who handle food logistics to reallocate that $$ to "lethality"?
great choice
"I'm paying how much towards the INTEREST on the national debt?"
If everyone got a receipt for their taxes breaking it down like this, I think our country would look totally different
