Google’s new Notebooks are a real improvement.
They are still not replacing Obsidian.
Google’s notebooks are built for projects and source synthesis.
Obsidian is still better for accumulated thinking over time.

AI search has an attribution problem.
Your content can shape the answer while someone else gets the commercial value. That is the issue Andrea Volpini’s GPT-5.4 piece brings into focus.

Based on Metehan Yeşilyurt’s brilliant research, I translated Google Discover’s “plumbing” into plain English for SEOs & publishers. Discover isn’t magic — it’s a pipeline.

“Grounding Pages” are mostly an About/Facts page with better structure. Useful discipline, sure. But it won’t “stop hallucinations” unless the wider web agrees with you. Fix your About page first. Build a separate facts page only if governance is the real problem.

EU “Digital Omnibus” isn’t an SEO law.
It’s a measurement story: GA4 gets murkier; GSC stays the anchor.
Paid: less signal, tougher attribution.
Response: clean consent + clear conversions, less attribution theatre.

AI can generate schema in seconds. That doesn’t mean you’re “done”. The value is clean entities, stable IDs, and markup that matches reality. grumpy-old-seo.com/schema-ai-se...

The messy middle hasn’t gone away — it’s been rebuilt.
Exploration and evaluation now happen across social platforms, AI tools, and inside Google’s AI Overviews. SEO still matters, but optimisation ≠ influence anymore.

SEO’s been URL-first for 20+ years: crawl → index → rank pages.
Google ranks URLs. LLMs recognise entities.
You won’t “rank in ChatGPT” — you’ll be understood (or ignored).
Entity clarity + consistent facts + credible mentions.

N-grams aren’t “new keywords”. They’re how you spot real query patterns (cost, vs, how-to, near me) and turn them into better content structure. Bonus: clearer, more extractable answers for AI-style search. Read the full article: grumpy-old-seo.com/n-grams-the-...
Expanding into Germany isn’t a translation problem.
It’s a trust problem.
German SEO rewards precision, clarity, and credibility — and punishes English-first assumptions.
If you’re a UK SME eyeing Germany, this matters more than rankings.

Little SEO helper: a quick sitemap analyzer.
This little tool is no fancy AI but a simple python code in colab. But I think it is helpful for some basic tasks.
Just put in the link of a URL you want to inspect and get a quick result.

Optmising your merchant center for organic shopping is a very effective thing to do - we did it for a US client, here are the results:
Operator OpenAI Agent is now live in the US (Pro Version needed) this will be intersting for SEOs for more then one reason first to see what it does and how it realla produces results second this puts pressure on Google to catch up (IMHO).
Here is the introduction www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSE7...
Seems now Google is not only changing the rules for all us poor SEOs, but also for the tools we use. What fun this will be when we can't even trust the data from tools we pay for anymore?

@markwilliamscook.com how do you now the way me brain works ? :-)
Look after your evergreen content. Optmizing just a third of this clients everygreen content we have seen amazing results.
Client was happy but stopped the project.
After 6 month of stagnation they decided now to go for the rest of the pages - Excited to see more growth for the client.
Which LLM to use? After being a big fan and user of ChatGPT I started in December playing around with Google AI Studio (it is free - at least for me) and I am rather pleasantly suprised especially when it comes to creating JSON-LD snippets for strucutured data.
