Closing the Chapter: An End-of-Year Classroom Routine with Meaning From the Classroom We knew it was coming; the temperatures rise, giving way to sweatier recess times, and eventually the state tests are over and spring break is well in the rear view mirror. It’s …

Make an observation about your pantry that sounds like the title of a novel:

Avalanche.

It used to be more. It could be more. Occasionally it still is. But I'm starting to think that moment has passed.

Social media is dead. Plastic. Artificial. It's like reading about going on a hike and calling yourself a hiker. It's like going out with friends...who ignore you and don't ask you questions.

Social media is cynicism. It's calling out wrongs to others who agree with you from the start.

I play it on the ukulele as we walk down the hall at dismissal every Friday...the whole grade level joins me in song. 3rd grade. I've done it every year I've taught.

I like the rime magic resource from scholastic. Simple to get going and only $100. But might need more than 1x a week for bigger impact

Hey #EduSky, my local reading council is selling these shirts. The funds raised help us giveaway books to kids at Halloween and host a conference for preservice teachers each year.

Did the hokie pokie for a brain break with my third graders today. Played the classic version from my phone. A good time was had by all! #EduSky #education #teachers

Last week I focused on helping my 3rd graders reconnect with each other & our classroom values. I didn't turn down the intensity of our assignments, but I did assign less in number. Classroom values and culture "leaks" over time. How do you build your culture? #EduSky #teachers #teaching #education

Canceled for a long time but went back for 7/mo with commercials. It's fine at that price point.

Yesterday was such a scattered day for me as a teacher. The kids too. It was like my ADHD meds didn't work at all. My confirmation was when I couldn't find my keys at the end of the day and realized...they were in the ignition of my car. 😬🤦‍♂️ Here's to a better day! #EduSky #teaching #education

My favorite inconsequential thing about teaching third grade may be the pictures the kids give me, especially of myself ❤️🤷🏻‍♂️ I keep a couple from each year in a binder.😂

Student: I like your shoes Mr. Wheeler
Me: thanks!
Student: They look like something my great grandma would have worn.
Me: Thanks. Internally 😬

I forget about it.

But also, I try to keep it simple and don't end up using a lot of those types of resources...good to check out again anyway though!

Sometimes humbling

Yes! Student input. I regularly say" there was a lot to like there, what went well?" And they point out all the good stuff and more. Then "what could have gone better?" They point out their own mistakes...and some of mine.

Q3. It takes a village. Having extra ears to the ground has helped this yr. Specials Ts, Special Ed, Interventionists, Speech Ts, SEL coach, our ELL teacher... they've all shared insights that helped me SEE what I couldn't in the classroom cntxt. Open to learning, listening, doing better #EduSkyChat

Q2. Empowering students to use voice to text, especially if they are struggling writers can unlock something so vital for those students. Conferring one on one and in groups as well as empowering students to help each other can turn tech mayhem into something closer to tech harmony. #EduSkyChat

With third graders it's simple...my favorite tool is Google Slides. The kids love to create "books" within slides. We just finished a unit in making question and answer books and I printed them out half page books...1 copy for the classroom library and 1 to go home. #EduSkyChat
