We looked at going back to Mackinac (bc 30 yrs) and thought we could do a lot better for the price. Not saying to not go ... just sharing our experience and that we aren't going back.
FWIW, Saugatuck MI is not carless but has a lot of the same charms, on water, and better food.
That part is really nice, though there could be better clean up after the horses.
Also, FWIW, hopefully changed, but 30 years ago, on honeymoon eating dinner at The Grand Hotel, it was extremely uncomfortable with the entire wait staff being black and none of the diners. It felt plantation-esque.

Proud to have two of my students presenting at the iSchool grad student research showcase. Heather Parkin (publisher platforms + impact metrics) & Joseph Mosse (librarianships of resistance + aggression). It is one of my greatest joys to supervise independent studies. Also, you should hire them! :)
Neither expensive nor prohibitively high are defined.
Also, note this is not about % of profit/surplus. Just about cost.

White House President's Budget Proposal: " The Budget prohibits the use of Federal funds for expensive subscriptions to academic journals and prohibitively high publishing costs unless required by Federal statute or approved in advance by a Federal agency."
Honestly, it has always been a bad idea.
Intriguing to see the returnn of the acceptability of the embargo period.
Not yet! But, I will put this on my list for my next trip!
Thanks. It's been a lot of thinking to get to the taxonomy. Will be published later this year.
I love that place (tho the market overall isn't as great as it used to be, unfortunately).
Yes, I explain the Diamond journal as a subcategory of the Gold journal. Place as category, business model as subcat. Just as Green article has subcats of article payment and subscription.
Yes, it's those who say not that need to say what they are then.
Including, what do we can a journal that meets all the criteria except the community (non commercial) one?
If you happen to be keeping track of the ones that are slop, you would do me a huge favor if you shared that list with me.
It's fine to throw away a book.
As with many (most) things with copyright - yes, no, maybe. Personally, I think probably not. But, I'll never know for sure until the courts rule...
Friends in Africa, please consider yourself and share with your colleagues. This is a very unique opportunity and I can't wait to work with the Fellows through my role with IFLA's Copyright and Other Legal Matters Committee!

With a read. A friendly edit tho ... not becoming. The infrastructure turn is 20ish years old already.
If you need a little joy today, enjoy this thread...
If I still have it, I'll find it in the next 97 days.
Not sure that is a comes with picture so much as showing a space libraries can put them.
(FWIW, I don't think the earphones are included.)
I went looking bc my recollection is they had a cartridge based tech at one point. I think I got a cartridge as vendor swag from them one year at ALA.
