Still, beyond these biases, people low in conspiracy mentality are better than those high in conspiracy mentality at distinguishing true from false conspiracies.
More interestingly, we found that people low in conspiracy mentality have their own bias, this time toward under-detecting conspiracies.
We found, unsurprisingly, that people high in conspiracy mentality (measured with three different scales) show a general bias toward over-detecting conspiracies.
What we studied is people’s ability to distinguish true conspiracies (i.e., those established by epistemic authorities) from false ones.
One common criticism of research on conspiracy mentality is that real conspiracies do exist. But of course they do!

With this assomption you will have an effect with or without the null findings.
I am surely stating the obvious but I am not sure about the "by definition". If there is truly nothing in the population, you will find no relationship even if you exclude the null findings (because positive and negative results will cancel each other out). Isn't it?
