Love how thorough and encompassing this coverage is. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right!

How Video Game Sex Scenes Are Made Game developers use intimacy coordinators, velcro, and juicy oranges to make better sex in games.

A great article by @nicolecarpenter.bsky.social on how intimacy is portrayed, motion captured and visualised in videogames.
I've long argued the sentiment that "Sex is a huge part of life, and it feels strange when art ignores that"

Hey Bluesky, I’m running a workshop on characterisation for games, animation and audiodramas, and you can come if you like!

It’s part of the One Voice Conference in London, Fri 16th May, but you don’t need a conference ticket to come, workshops sold separately.

What I like about role-playing games is that they allow you to act out power fantasies that you could never achieve in real life.

Great advice. Finding support networks in any creative industry is vital. And if you can say ‘hey, I know someone!’ people (in my exp) will do the same for you.

Act 2 of our 3-act For The Queen game just dropped on Merely Roleplayers. The rules say you love the Queen, Josh, what are you doing arranging ambushes? Justify yourself!

The parade of useless tech-in-search-of-a-problem and rampant VC yes-man-ing has basically driven the Western tech industry into the ground. It's so embarrassing. I can't allow myself to think about where that funding could have gone or else I'd lose my mind

In slightly less grumbly doom and gloom news, the D&D group I play with is back to streaming tonight after a well earned festive rest and we've got some Good Nonsense ™️ lined up this year (made by people, not AI)

Screenshot of the form for sending messages to the Office of the Prime Minster. The message reads:
"Hi Kier,

You won the election by telling us that you would set up a world-beating publicly-owned green energy company, and that you would make it easier for all people to find work and buy their first houses. Lately it seems that all you talk about is promoting and supporting artificial intelligence schemes. Given that we know that artificial intelligence is most adept at a) making human workers redundant, b) destroying the environment with disproportionately high demands on energy and water supplies and c) getting things slightly wrong, I don't quite see how the 'AI Opportunities Action Plan' is achieving any of your previously stated goals.

I can, however, see how moving the country strongly in this direction will put us all squarely in the thrall of child-minded, nihilistic, ultra-capitalist Californian tech CEOs, but I don't remember that being in your manifesto last year.

All the best,
- Tom

PS: This message was in no part written with generative AI."

I've sent this to the Office of the PM for all the good it'll do me.

This is a grossly irresponsible move that is going to cause enormous harm that will take year and years to unravel.

very easy to get caught up in the loud obnoxious grifter assholes who decry “wokeness” & complain representation is ruining their “hobby” but the thing that matters is, a bunch of people chanting TRANS RIGHTS raise $2mil+ for great charities twice a year, every year. that’s what it’s all about

It’s cool how to be a writer you can’t just write, you have to spend your whole life building audiences in sandcastles that powerful people can kick down in an instant

Elsa and I spent the last year building something of our own, organically & painstakingly. Now Instagram & this.

If you’re familiar with playing TTRPGs in front of an in-person audience (as player or audience) BEFORE 2009, I’d love to hear
about your memories.

You can comment or email Ecfriedman at auburn dot edu

This is for Polygon (& probably book), so please let me know how’d you’d like to be cited.

The loss of solid middle class incomes for the mid list in all creative endeavors is a choice, a choice made by the people who dominate publishing, journalism, cinema, TV, music … and it doesn’t have to be this way.

The reason we don't have a robust and curious games media to tackle the subject of why video games have become unsustainable is basically the same reason why video games have become unsustainable. It's an industry built to protect the profits of a handful of rich men, and the NYTimes are in on it.
