'I know some would just simply resign at this stage. What really got to me was him being insulting to a person and asking if they were slow. That alone is resignation material.' And of course he has this coming up this year....

Looking closely at the Hugo awards (they left out writers who were eligible) I think this about Dave McCarty and his involvement.

Welcome to Bluesky, we have rules here:
1. Take me through the centuries to supersonic years
2. Electrifying enemy is drowning in his tears
3. All I have to give you is a love that never dies
4. The symptom of the universe is written in your eyes
I'm Jayaprakash Satyamurthy. I live in India.
I write poetry and mainly short stories. The fiction is weird/speculative/experimental/literary.
You can buy my short story collections, poetry and other things via the linktree in my bio.
I have never participated in any halloween celebration.
Watching Sunshine. I'd forgotten what a great cast this movie had.
The hugest, most massive congratulations to our own EM Faulds (@bethkesh.bsky.social) on winning Best Collection at the British Fantasy Awards! We love you too!

It is David A. Riley.
Weird Horror mag opens Saturday for subs for 2 weeks. Please read the guidelines. Not to throw shade, but the last few queries I had were all addressed already in the guidelines. We're all tired, I know.
You can read the mag free online to get a feel.

Book cover of "All the Things We Never See," by Michael Kelly. Cover art is charcoal, showing 3 odd men in one large overcoat, peering above the collar.
My 4th book, but the latest. A collection of strange stories. Cover art by David Alvarez. Design by Vince Haig.
Follow up: Gordon Van Gelder finally responded on facebook. Link to the statement is below as is a screenshot.
I'm glad he *finally* did this after his initial, private, whiny non-responses. Him stepping up to do his job is the LEAST he could do.

Former editors Erika Satifka and CC Finlay have both shown GVG behaves like a grey imminence, holding power but evading public accountability. Direct your heat at him.
Let's hope F&SF ceases being The Master's Tools & The Master's House (phrasing from Audre Lord).
Years of publishing, probably launching and nurturing careers does not outweigh the fuckery and bad faith that we can ascribe to the publisher of F&SF magazine. A real redemption arc is possible but will include dropping Riley, apologising to Sheree Thomas & giving her full cart blanche moving fwd.
And it was quite literally a fight. I was a bit young, but I had older friends who ended up bloodied and bruised.
In no sense were they ever, just another party.
The badges below are from the 70s.
When I was a child in the 1970s their graffiti was everywhere. You couldn’t walk down any street without seeing it. Sides were taken in classrooms and playgrounds. In schools and on the streets mods, punks and skinheads either sported NF symbols or wore with pride the anti-nazi league badges.
The National Front are a direct descendant of Oswald Moseley’s British Union of Fascists. They were founded by an ex member who merged two of the successor parties. At their height they were Britain’s fourth party.
And yeah, I'd have just chucked him. But I didn't choose to reform a notoriously regressive mag (many of whose readers want her gone), and I don't care if F&SF goes under. I'm also not facing a choice that could put me in the sights of a terrorist org. Thinking is not weak under those circs.
N.K. Jemisin explains what's happening at F&SF as far as she can figure out. I'm going to talk just briefly about the organisation the author was a member of and is trying to present as just "conservative". If you are on FB you may have read this:
Being a white man leading that magazine as publisher = he has power in our white supremacist culture = he needs to fucking use that power to **support his editor, who is far more at risk** bc that is the ONLY right & responsible thing for him to do. His silence is a dereliction of duty.
I'm sorry. He is Andrew Brons and has a wiki entry. He is a lifelong friend of Riley.
I'm sorry. I'm new to this site. Andrew Brons. He has a wiki entry. Long life friend of Riley.
Not just in the 70's. 2009 Riley. 'Having first met Andrew over thirty years ago, I can't think of anyone better to be the first BNP MEP. He has worked hard as a British nationalist for more years than I care to remember. He will be a glowing credit to the BNP. Well done!'
2023. Fascism and bigotry are still being regarded as 'just an opinion' by those privileged enough to be directly unaffected by them, while still somehow regarding themselves as the authority on the subject.
What else is new?
Since there is apparently some misinformation going around:
when Riley was first exposed, he was removed from Weirdbook by publisher/editor Douglas Draa (a normal white conservative) immediately
he was removed from an HWA award jury the next year after a brief struggle.
